Pinoys air views online during Aquino's SONA

MANILA, Philippines - On the day President Aquino spoke to the Filipino people, Pinoy netizens made their voices heard online.

Filipinos were very active on the world wide Web, and in particular on social networking websites, airing their views about the State of the Nation Address on Monday.

Pinoys were most active on Twitter, where terms associated with the SONA became trending topics between 230 pm and 8 pm.

At start of SONA, 4:02 pm

4:16 pm

End of SONA, 4:39 pm

5:28 pm

5:47 pm

6:01 pm

 

The hashtag #SONA2010 was among the most-used terms in the Twitterverse, peaking at around 4 pm Philippine time.

Among the most popular tweets in the social networking site was a tweet from @ANCALERTS:

"Appointees ni PGMA. Kung mayroon pa silang kahit kaunting hiya na natitira - sana kusa na lang silang magbitiw sa puwesto." #sona20104:13 PM July 26th via TweetDeck

The tweet was "re-tweeted" the most between 4pm and 9pm, and the lone SONA-related tweet in Twitter's @toptweets account.

The tweets of ABS-CBN News, ANC, and ABS-CBN journalists were also popular among Pinoy netizens.

On TrendsMap.com, a website tracking and mapping Twitter trends worldwide, the speech was also clearly a hot topic:

And it wasn't just Filipinos in the Philippines who were tweeting: overseas Pinoys were also watching Aquino's SONA, as seen in this TrendsMap.com screenshot after the SONA.

Reactions

Twitter reactions to the speech ran a gamut of emotions, from highly optimisted to highly pessimistic.
