PDIC to file 5 more estafa cases vs Legacy execs

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) plans to file 5 more cases of syndicated estafa against Legacy owner Celso delos Angeles Jr. and other officers of the Legacy Group for siphoning off clients' money.

'Legacy owner pretending to be ill to evade jail'

While Celso de los Angeles currently has 4 arrest warrants issued by different courts for estafa cases, he remains out of jail. The owner of Legacy Group, which has allegedly defrauded depositors and investors of billions of pesos, has recently transferred to a private condominium unit after leaving a posh hospital where he was reportedly being treated for stage 4 throat cancer. On Thursday, a pre-need group called for De los Angeles' immediate transfer to a jail.

However, De los Angeles' lawyer, Noel Malaya, told ABS-CBN News that the businessman-turned-Albay-town-mayor still has a lot of apparatus connected to his body and needs to stay within the hospital compound for easier access to medical services.
