2012 was a year that started with big news about a Chief Justice named Renato and ended with a deadly typhoon named Pablo. These opening and closing news events were just some of the drama in another unforgettable year for the Philippines.
Aside from typhoons, storm surges and earthquakes, unresolved problems on urban and agrarian reform stuck out like a sore thumb in 2012.
The most devastating blow to the national psyche, however, did not come from nature but from a Mexican named Juan Manuel Marquez.
But two Pinoys--boxer Nonito Donaire and beauty queen Janine Tugonon--were able to lift up their countrymen's spirit in time for Christmas and the New Year.
