MANILA, Philippines - The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) challenged the Aquino administration to review policies on gun ownership and gun control.

The statement was issued by VACC chairman Dante Jimenez at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in the wake of Friday's shooting in Kawit, Cavite that claimed several lives.

VACC member Arsenio "Boy" Evangelista, for his part, slammed corruption in obtaining gun licenses and permits to carry firearms.

He pointed out that a member of the Dominguez carjacking syndicate allegedly responsible for the killing of his son, Vencer, was able to obtain these permits.

The VACC called on all the victims and kin of the Cavite shooting incident to get in touch with them and the authorities so that justice may be served on the second suspect who remains at large.

Jimenez and Evangelista went to the PGH to extend support to the 6 other victims still being treated in the facility.

Meanwhile, President Benigno Aquino has yet to discuss a proposal to impose a gun ban during the holiday season to prevent stray bullets, deputy Presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said Friday.

Asked about concerns that the President would not support a gun ban given the fact that he is a gun enthusiast, Valte said "that is an unwarranted assumption." - with ANC
