Racy Internet show irks Grace Poe
MANILA, Philippines - A racy Internet show that showcases women engaging in torrid kissing with the program host and other men whom they meet for the first time has caught the ire of former censors chief and senatorial bet Grace Poe Llamanzares.
In a statement, Llamanzares said indecent, pornographic shows are illegal whether on TV, moviehouses or on the Internet. She, however, admitted that guarding Internet content is much harder to do and urged the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to act on the matter.
"MTRCB should take a strong stand now to shut down pornographic online shows immediately," she said.
Atty. Eric Mallonga, a member of the MTRCB board, said Article 2 of the Offenses against Decency and Good Customs bars indecent shows and carries a penalty of 10-20 years imprisonment and a fine from P6,000-P12,000.
MTRCB Chairman Eugenio Villareal said he is studying how government agencies can regulate what appears on the Internet.
The show's producers believe the show is part of the right of free expression, and it is the responsibility of parents to filter what their children are watching on the Internet.
Llamanzares said parents play a large role in shaping the values of their children.
"Di man natin kayang bantayan ang mga anak natin sa lahat ng oras, sa bawat pagkakataon na pwede natin silang pangaralan, kausapin at pakinggan ay mahalagang magawa natin ito. Ang malapit nating relasyon at komunikasyon sa ating mga anak ay napakahalaga. Tayo ay may pinakamalaking impluwensiya sa tamang gagawin at pag-iisip ng ating mga anak," she said.
