MANILA -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and World Food Programme (WFP) on Tuesday distributed cash assistance to over 2,000 "Yolanda" survivors in Tanauan, Leyte.

DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman and WFP country director Praveen Agrawal led the distribution of emergency cash grants to those who were affected by the massive typhoon, which struck central Philippines last November 8.

Members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program received as much as P2,800 from the DSWD and P1,300 from the WFP.

Soliman said the cash grants will help typhoon survivors to better recover from the calamity.

Agrawal, meanwhile, advised the beneficiaries to use the money for purchasing food especially for the children. -- Report from Melanie Bingco, ABS-CBN News Tacloban
