Comelec eyes granting security, not gun ban exemptions
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is inclined to grant a security detail to private individuals instead of gun ban exemptions once the ban takes effect on Sunday, the start of the 120-day election period.
Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said the poll body is now drafting revisions to the implementing rules and regulations of the gun ban which will be presented to the military and police chiefs in a command conference on Friday.
"Depende sa reason. What we've agreed is if private person, you're entitled to security. Bibigyan kayo ng security pero di kayo mismo,” he said.
He said he doesn't see major amendments to the gun ban rules and regulations since it is the same one implemented in the 2010 elections.
“Kaya di ko maintiidhan bakit maraming issue,” he said.
He said those who want to be exempted must write the Comelec's committee on the ban on firearms and security personnel to request for exemptions.
