MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III remains lukewarm to Charter change (Cha-cha), despite a reported new push from his Liberal Party (LP) colleagues.

In an interview with radio dzRB, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said she is not familiar with talks among LP members but noted “Cha-cha is not the priority of this administration.”

A news report quoted Agham Party-list Angelo Palmones as saying Aquino’s partymates will push to amend the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.

In a report from Manila Bulletin, Palmones also said the political party will seek a unicameral form of government.

This comes amid statements from House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. that Cha-cha will be revived during the 16th Congress.

“Gusto nga ng Liberal na gawing unicameral at alisin ang party-list system. Some LP leaders will push not only economics reforms but also political like shift to unicameral. But, surely LP will deny it as a party stand,” Palmones told Manila Bulletin.
