Revilla wants Senate to probe Atimonan incident
MANILA, Philippines - Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. wants his colleagues to dip their hands into the Atimonan shooting incident.
In a statement, Revilla said he will file a resolution this week to formally direct the appropriate committees to conduct an investigation. "The sheer number of people dead in the incident makes an investigation imperative so that related legislations may be passed and/or amended as the need arise," he said.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is already investigating the killing of 13 people in an alleged shootout between government security forces and alleged criminals in the province of Quezon last week.
Still, Revilla is not content. He said NBI’s initial investigations contradict information from the Philippine National Police as well as information supposedly linking the incident to another “shootout” in Calamba, Laguna last November where six individuals were killed by the police.
"We must also find out if certain SOPs in police operations were violated or there are loopholes in the existing SOPs," he said.
