Villar steps up drive vs Noynoy

Says Aquino lacks experience to be president

MANILA, Philippines - Presidential survey second-placer Senator Manuel Villar unleashed yet again potshots against the May 2010 polls frontrunner Senator Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino Jr., as he questioned the latter’s capacity to lead the country.

At a presidential policy forum on Thursday organized by the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation, Villar said those aspiring to become President should have a track record to back up one’s bid.

Replying to a question raised by University of the Philippines Professor Carol Hernandez on what campaign promises they would change once elected as President, Villar said his track record should speak for itself.

”The problem with elections is that we make a lot of promises," Villar conceded. But he asked voters to discern from among the candidates “what have we done in the past, what is our experience.”

Obviously obliquely referring to his closest rival in the May 10, 2010 national elections, Villar said there are candidates who vow “to reduce or change society, but can you really do it?”

He added: “Have you changed anything in your life?”

Villar has narrowed the lead of Aquino from 19 percentage points in a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted December 5-10, 2009 to 11 percentage points in the latest December 27-28 presidential survey of the SWS commissioned by the Villar camp.

Only Villar, Senator Richard Gordon, and administration candidate former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. attended the forum held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati City.

Aquino was supposedly in La Union for a prior commitment.

The 3 presidential wannabes were grilled on a number of issues, ranging from security concerns in Mindanao, foreign relations, the economy, migrant workers, corruption, and competitiveness.

Aquino’s absence failed to stop Villar from questioning his main rival’s qualification, pouncing at it every chance he got.

FVR engages the presidential bets

Answering a series of questions from former President Fidel V. Ramos on nepotism, work ethic and preparations for the presidency, Villar vowed that he would not be appointing any relative to any government post.

He said he “has been building teams all my life,” and that he has been trained and experienced to become the country’s chief executive officer.

For the presidency, he said “there is no time for OJT (on-the-job training) and for consultants.”

Although Aquino was a 3-term congressman and has a 3-year experience in the Senate, his ability to lead the country is under a cloud of doubt. Unlike Villar, Aquino has not held any leadership position in the business sector or in the executive branch of government.

Villar’s camp, on the other hand, has been harping on his track record as a businessman who has gone from rags to riches.

The attacks on his credentials appeared to struck a sensitive chord in Aquino. In a presidential forum last Saturday, he retaliated by questioning surveys showing Villar slowly catching up.

Villar and Aquino are the standard-bearers of the Nacionalista Party and Liberal Party respectively.

Other highlights of the forum:

On the security problem in Mindanao:

Teodoro said there should be “adequate investment” in the military as a way of phasing out civilian volunteer organizations that usually morph into private armies of politicians.

Villar said the human development index in Mindanao should be increased, and the peace process with Muslim separatists must continue.

Gordon, on the other hand, lashed at “transactional politics" that led to the creation of power brokers and overlords in the region. He added that the lack of governance in the region has led to a breakdown of the institutions and disregard for the law.

On foreign relations and international security:

The candidates were asked about the propensity of the chief executive in appointing non-career officials to ambassadorial positions. The three candidates did not directly object to the practice, rationalizing that there are people whose credentials fit the requirements for a certain ambassadorial post.

On the policy of worker diaspora and Filipino migration:

The three candidates agreed that the present economic situation necessitates continuing the overseas employment program. However, they batted for safety nets and more protection for overseas Filipino workers.

On improving Philippine competitiveness:

Gordon said corruption must be first eradicated along with raising productivity and inducing a “regime of meritocracy” in government and the private sector.

Teodoro said there is a need to “realign” basic education and implement “sustainable and long term infrastructure programs.” He also batted for greater regional free trade agreements (FTAs) and increased investment opportunities with Middle Eastern countries.

Villar said the next president “should lead in competing.” He vowed to reduce corruption in his first 100 days as president.

On increasing revenues:

Villar and Teodoro sought for more efficient collection and “strategic borrowing” to improve the government’s fiscal situation.

Gordon, on the other hand, said he would curb smuggling and initiate cuts in government spending.

About A Bad Teacher, A Bad Liar, and Blind Leading the Blind

What kind of 'teacher' are you? Do you often teach your students at school to lie? If so, is it because you would like to teach children to learn how to lie to protect your own interests, your own prejudices, and how to learn to hide the truth by lying and bearing false witness against your neighbor?

Thia is a perfect example of how some people cannot see past their own nose to see the truth that surrounds them. This is a perfect example of how people can waste their time believing in lies created by people who believe that their lies can be covered up by their own feelings of self-righteousness, over zealousness, stubbornness, ignorance, selfishness, and in being 'a Muppet' as well.

Well, I don't know where you get your "news" from... but sorry it's really not true, and what you have just said just sounds plain and stupid. Imagine, a future generation who learns truth from a machine built in the future of a new and highest heaven that tells them that which of what you say are lies and which of what is said is truth; and what you are campaigning about is based on toilet paper, and how stupid that must make that person or you seem to be to a future generation that knows truth from fiction and all about everything in our present time as it and all is carefully studied and weighed.

Think again, whoever you think you are and who you would like us to believe you to be... because, your lies are coming out your eyes. DO NOT think that people are so easily swayed by a lot of the false accusations your campaign would have against other candidates. And to be fair, you seem to only know as much as someone next to you would tell you. And Fish starts to stink at its head.... or its heads... I do not appreciate you you using your position, or job title of "teacher" to get recognition from us to try to get people to believe the lies that you believe in or of what you seem to be campaigning about.

If you don't believe in God, then who or what do you believe in? Did you not ever read in the Bible that "all our names will be written in heaven"??? So what do you think that means? Are you someone that is starting to believe that what you have read about in religion isn't true? If so, do not begin to speculate radically about anything if you are in fact unaware of what is the truth.

Certainly as a parent, I would prefer not to have any of my children to be a student in your class. That would be the blind leading the blind... I would like to warn you: Do not take advantage of the innocence of one's "being naive", which is a strong but good characteristic in children, and if you would do so in order to lead them astray to support some unprecedented and misguided personal beliefs, you my friend are a hypocrite.

I'm sorry, but... do you represent a future government that will also lie to our children as it would have to our people?? At least to save the reputations of the leaders of your campaign? I'm not so sure if I would like YOU to be one of the teachers to teach at a school of my children together with poorer or richer children who both would have equal opportunities to be the kind of leaders that would guide future generations to make brighter and better decisions and choices than our generation has seen and has had to decide how we can help alleviate our negative situations of the reality of poverty in our own country.

Please do not post a picture with your face smiling because there is obviously nothing funny or good about what you have said, nor is the situation in our country a laughing matter to be left alone to be dealt with by the leaders of your campaign. To help alleviate the situation we need to do so by injecting solutions, not by sedating our present reality with more of the kind of lies that your campaign seems to emit and to support and would like to try hard to inject us with.

May God of the highest heavens help you make the right decision, lest you remain over-zealous (which means stubborn by the way) in order to help you resist the temptations of telling more lies caused because of some misplaced pride within... Also I did not mean to offend you, by writing this, but well..

In the end only the truth remains... thank you

truth remains...

Noy Noy for President? Think again...

Personally, I think that Noy noy is mainly running "lip service", because he is a people pleaser, a 'muppet, an in-experienced leader, and will not be a good president for the Philippines. He will promise a better economy for our country but the poor will continue to get poorer as his sister 'Kris' may own a new 'Gateway' mall. One of the main reasons he has run for president is so that his family can stay in power since after his mother and father are gone. He hasn't passed any laws or bills, his family hasn't done much to help this country even when Corazan Aquino was president.

When Aquino was in power after the Marcos regime, they only restored the old oligarchy. They overlooked the poorest poor and asked us to pray for our country on our streets and to honor the spirit of Edsa, which is actually the spirit of the people, and not just any one particular political icon. If he is president, no doubt will he be strongly influenced by those already in power to make decisions that will be directed to mainly help the concerned parties, instead of the interests of the general public, and the poorest poor.

I am for low-cost housing, for helping alleviate poverty in our country at all costs and will vote for a candidate that doesn't need to use his position for political or financial gain. And that candidate is definitely not Noy Noy Aquino. People who will vote for Noy noy are blinded by the fact that Noy Noy is paying them "lip service" and cannot see past their own nose to see the truth that surrounds them.

Shall we all just pray for a better economy? We need a man of action, who is persistent, and willing to give from his own workings, to provide financial aid to the impoverished, micro-businesses to women, subsidized rice, programs to give free scholarships, keep children in schools, provide low cost housing, someone with experience in staying the course and not giving in to any political pressure as a leader.

Trust me, this person is not Noy Noy Aquino. Charismatic and appealing as he may seem, he is not who God would want to be the leader of this country if we should truly care about helping this country come out of poverty. This is our role also as the leaders of a free nation, that we guide the decisions of our brothers and sisters to make the right choice.
