MANILA - President Aquino lambasted administration critics anew while lauding employees of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for their response during calamities.

Speaking at the agency's 63rd anniversary celebration, Aquino paid tribute to social workers for their dedication despite criticisms.

He also defended Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla from criticisms for his alleged failure to restore electricity in all towns affected by typhoon Yolanda.

He said Petilla was able to energize 99 percent of the target and said that calls for his resignation were baseless.

"Siguro ho kung itong mga kritikong to ang nagpapatakbo ng isang paaralan swerte na silang tumakbo ng isang taon dahil walang pumapasa sa kanilang paaralan," he said.

At the event, the President handed citations to DSWD employees Danny Bitara and Noemi Mongaya who survived a helicopter crash in December while on their way to a relief drive for "Yolanda" victims in Leyte.

"Kayo ang ehemplo ng mga tunay na tagapaglingkod ng mamamayang Pilipino," he said.

He cited DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, noting her tirelessness.
