Lito Lapid: Roxas is not 'Boy Pick-up'

MANILA - Senator Lito Lapid said he was not "picked-up" for a meeting in Malacañang during the impeachment trial of then Chief Justice Renato Corona.

The senator also defended Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, saying it was typical for Roxas to invite friends and drive them to places when the latter was still a senator.

"Kahit nung senador pa sya, mahilig talaga sya mag imbita at sya ang nagda-drive. Naimbitahan nya din ako noon," Lapid said.

He, however, qualified that the invitations were all casual and social in nature and political issues were not discussed.

"Pinagdrive na din kami nyan. May Monday group kasi kami noon," Lapid said, referring to their group of friends who usually gather together in a restaurant or residence on Mondays.

Lapid refused to comment on allegations made by Sen. Bong Revilla, particularly the meeting that took place between Revilla and President Aquino in Malacanang.

Revilla has accused the President of trying to influence his vote during the Corona impeachment trial.

Lapid said he did not notice if Roxas always removes his car plates. He said he himself removes his car plates to eliminate arrogance on the streets.

He maintained that nobody from the administration talked to him during the impeachment to influence his vote.

"Wala, pero alam naman natin na ang mahal na Pangulo noon gusto talaga maimpeach si Corona," Lapid said.
