Probe sought on PNoy's meeting with senators
MANILA -- ABAKADA party-list Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz wants a congressional investigation into the circumstances behind President Aquino's meetings with some senators during the height of the Corona impeachment trial.
Dela Cruz wants Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, and the head of the Presidential Security Group to appear before Congress in Question Hour or in an investigation of the committees on Justice and Good Government.
According to Dela Cruz, Aquino's meetings can be likened to the "Hello Garci" scandal, wherein a woman -- believed to be former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo -- was supposedly caught in a wiretapped conversation with a man believed to be then election commissioner Virgilio Garcillano allegedly to rig the 2004 elections.
The investigation, Dela Cruz said, will determine if Aquino's actions will constitute betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, bribery or graft and corruption and thus rise to be an impeachable offense.
He noted that constitutional officers like the President must act according to certain norms.
Dela Cruz will file his resolution Wednesday.
