House to probe JDF, eyes Sereno testimony
MANILA - House Justice Committee Chair Niel Tupas Jr said his committee will invite Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno or her representative to a committee investigation of the Judiciary Development Fund (JDF), supposedly the pork barrel of the judiciary.
Tupas, however, said Sereno, an impeachable officer, will not be compelled and will be allowed to send a representative.
The JDF is managed directly by the Office of the Chief Justice.
Tupas said the investigation is in light of efforts to revisit the law that created the JDF, which comes from the collections of court filing fees.
The JDF, unlike most government revenues, does not go to the general fund subject to congressional appropriation but instead goes to a separate special account in the National Treasury.
Tupas said the JDF investigation will be scheduled next month.
