Noynoy responds to Villar ad on poverty
MANILA, Philippines - "Nag-Pasko ka na ba sa gitna ng kalsada?" (Have you spent Christmas in the middle of a street?)
The line, sung by a streetchild, is in a TV ad of Senator and Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manny Villar. The popular campaign ad talks about Villar's humble roots and how he has made a name for himself despite all odds.
In response, presidential candidate Sen. Benigno"Noynoy" Aquino III said he has spent several Christmases on a street, literally on Times Street, where his mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, used to live.
He said that there were times that they had to spend Christmas eve on the street while going to their mother's place.
"Meron rin ho yata noon, siguro after Malacañang. Depende kung saan naabutan. Ang nanay ko kasi importante sa kanya sa Christmas magkakasama kami, kasama ang mga neighbors sa Times Street (I think there was, after Malacañang, wherever we can. It's important for my mother, for us to celebrate Christmas together and with friends on Time Street)," Aquino told ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda, referring to the late president's residence in Quezon City.
In a more serious reply, the senator said anybody can experience poverty, but insisted that learning positive things out of that experience is another matter. He said he and his family have had so many experiences of being deprived, particularly deprivation of justice, which he said is being experienced by most poor people.
Aquino feels that his experience during the martial law era under the late president Ferdinand Marcos is sufficient enough for him to feel the plight of the poor people.
"Alam natin ang nadarama ng naaapi at ayaw nating maulit ang pang-aaping iyon. (I know what is the feeling of being abused and I don't want it to happen again). We have a sufficient experience to fight it," the senator said.
Noynoy TV ad not referring to Villar
Aquino, meanwhile, denied that his latest political advertisement, where he promised not to rob the people's money, is a swipe at Villar and the double insertion controversy the senator is facing.
He said the TV ad is about the way the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is running the government. He cited the botched $329-million NBN-ZTE deal, which was eventually shelved by the government due to allegations of bribery.
Aquino said he has been urging Villar to present himself before the ethics hearing of the Senate committee of the whole and clear himself from the double insertion allegation.
He said he is still not totally convinced that Villar is guilty of the allegations, which is why he has been asking his fellow presidential contender to attend the ethics hearing. He added that Villar has placed himself in a very bad position by failing to challenge the evidence presented before the Senate.
Instead of defending himself before his colleagues, Villar has chosen to answer the allegations in press conferences, mostly held right after the hearings. The senator believes the ethics case filed against him by another presidential candidate, Sen. Jamby Madrigal, is politically motivated.
Aquino, meanwhile, said that he would not inhibit from the hearings because of the numbers' problem in the Senate. He said his presence is needed to resolve the case ethics case as the Senate is already short of active members.
He assured the public that he is not politicking.
Senators on Monday clashed over Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile's report on Villar's ethics case, censuring the senator for allegedly violating the Constitution and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Office and Employees.
The 84-page report signed by 12 of 23 senators recommended that Villar be censured for improper and unethical conduct after he allegedly instigated and funded a government road project that benefited his real estate business.
The committee also demanded that Villar return to the government an unspecified amount he gained from his role in the C-5 road extension project.

If Noynoy can, I can
Do you guys really want to have a dull, mediocre guy with pathetic credentials who has never run anything even a family, more so, running away from responsibilities like marriage, for your president? Honestly? Oh come on.
Even I can make my resume appear worthy enough to measure up with the likes of Gibo, Villar, Gordon and even Villanueva and JC.
I’m sure you noticed that my IQ is not very high and I’m not as eloquent as a call center agent but my family is rich enough to send me to ateneo to get my bachelors in economics and that should be enough to do the trick. Besides educational background is one of the few things I can’t be creative with.
I know I don’t really have what it takes to lead and manage something but no matter. My mom and uncles are quite influential so I can be chairman of some coops and president of some clubs that should cover the leadership section. Hey, I also get to sit for various positions in my family’s political party.
I’m not really into making laws but I’ll be a legislator anyway just because I can. I know my colleagues would trust me to chair any committee but I would count them in my resume as well so that the Filipino people wouldn’t notice the ZERO number of bills in congress.
With this resume I’m that the Filipino people wouldn’t mind if:
Gibo is smarter and more eloquent than me: UP law, bar topnotcher, Harvard Masters of Law and all; executive experience; real corporate chairman and CEO.
Villar is smarter and more capable and than me: UP accountancy, UP Masters in Business, entrepreneur, created wealth, created a business empire, created jobs, one of top filers of bills and laws, presided over the two congress, etc. etc.
Gordon is smarter and more accomplished than me: UP law, solid public service and corporate experience with highly visible results (e.g. mayor, SBMA chairman ( definitely not a cooperative), tourism secretary etc. ).
Even if Villanueva, a former PUP economics professor now a leader of a 12 million strong religious org, or JC de Castro, UP Public administration and theological schools in the US, have far more IQ, leadership skills and spirituality than me, I’m sure the Filipinos wouldn’t even notice.
But wait, Noynoy has something that I cannot produce, manipulate or create. Noynoy’s got a dad who’s a national hero, a mother who’s virtue overshadowed the mendiola and luisita massacres and other ills of the Philippines and a sister who got all the brains, wit and charisma of their parents . And of course, I don’t have the backing of a whole network in exchange for a long overdue and perpetual “utang na loob.”
So I wouldn’t bother running. The May elections would be nothing more than a vain yet necessary ritual to coronate Noynoy as the anointed president of the Philippines.
Why? Because the Filipino people just doesn’t get it.

ang lahat ng gastos nila? NAKU PO, Nanay, Tatay...paano yan kapag umupo na yan c Money Villar? Sa palagay niyo kaya gagastos ng Bilyong pesos sa political ads si Money Villar ng ganon na lang.. na sasabihin ok lang yan.. para sa mahihirap gagawin ko yan ng walang kapalit? Ewan ko lang, pero ang alam ko WALANG BUSINESSMAN na magpupundar ng malaking halaga na hindi umaasang babalik ang lahat pati na ang interest at kita . At saan naman kukunin ang lahat ng ginastos niya? Sempre, sa kaban ng bayan... or para hindi halata, sa mga projects na gagawin ng kanyang mga companies. We can stop this practices NOW buy not voting Money Villar. Otherwise, corruptions will never be eliminated at ang kawawa ay ang sambayanang Pilipino. Nasa inyong mga kamay ang pag-asa ng Bayan..bomoto hindi dahil sinasabi niyang may pag-asa ang mahirap at itataguyod ang mahihirap dahil galing din sya sa mahirap. THAT'S FULL OF BS!!! Kung clear na si Villar, e di clear na rin si GMA sa lahat ng mga akusayson sa kanya dahil, nilihinis na rin siya ng mga 'government agencies' and officials?
Ganyan ba kadaling malaman kung maykasalan o wala, kung naaayon ba sa mabuting asal ang ginawa o hindi?
Ang kailangan ipaliwanag ni Villar ay itong issue laban sa kanya -
Siya ba ay nagpursige at naglagay ng pundo ng isang projekto ng gobyerno na diretsahang magbibigay ng benepesyo sa kanyang mga ari-arian, without disclosing the same to the proper body? Ginamit ba ang kanyang 'posisyon' para ang isang projekto ay pansamantalang itigil at ang ituloy ay ang kanyang proyekto?
Kung ano man ang kasagutan niya rito, nasa tao na ang maghuhusga kung paniniwalaan o hindi sa darating na halalan. Dahil ang ethics complaint ay nakasampa sa tama forum, Senado, so ang mga senador na ang humusga batay sa kanilang sariling evaluation ng mga ebidensya.
Ang mahalaga lang sa akin, sumagot si Villar sa harap ng Senado. Kung kaya niyang isnabin ang mga sariling kasamahan, paano na lang kung siya ay presidente na, at mga ordinaryong mamamayan ng humingi ng paliwanag sa kanyan. Ano ang sasabihin niya, na ang paratang ang gawa-gawa lang ng mga kalaba sa politika. At kung isampa naman sa Congresso sa isang impeachment proceedings, di siya sisipot dahil sasabihin niya rin na hindi siya makakakuha ng hustiya doon.
Paano na ang mangyayari sa ating mga institutional processes kung may isang leader na gaya ni Villar ang pangangatwiran?
ISIP - ISIP. . . .Kung ano ugali mo ngayon, ganyan din bukas. Walang pagbabago sa isang kisap-mata lang, lalo na kung karakter ng pagkatao ang pinag-uusapan.
