Iggy Arroyo 'clinically dead': Mike Arroyo
MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) - Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo Jr., the congressman representing the 5th district of Negros Occidental, is clinically dead, according to his older brother, former First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo.
Mike Arroyo said his source at his brother's bedside initially told him that Iggy had passed away after suffering cardiac arrest last night.
He clarified that his brother is brain dead or clinically dead but has not been pronounced as dead by doctors.
He said Iggy is still on life support, which could be taken out anytime. He said he will issue a statement at the proper time.
The former first gentleman earlier said Iggy had a cardiac arrest last night. "At that point, an ambulance was called for him in London. He was revived at the hospital but he went into a coma. This morning, his heart stopped beating."
The younger Arroyo went to London last year to seek treatment for a liver ailment. He was listed as one of the lawmakers with the most number of absences in the House of Representatives for 2011.
He earlier told ABS-CBN News last December that he had to stay longer in London because of his ongoing treatment.
He also urged President Benigno Aquino III to show compassion to his sister-in-law, former President Gloria Arroyo.
The younger Arroyo figured in the news in 2003 after he claimed ownership of the multimillion-peso "Jose Pidal" account, allegedly owned by his brother.
He again allegedly covered up for his brother after he claimed that he leased 5 helicopters from Lionair Inc. since 2004. Two of the choppers were allegedly sold to the Philippine National Police for $700,000 in 2009.
Arroyo's claim ran contrary to claims made by Lionair President Archibald Po that Mike Arroyo purchased and used the choppers before they were sold to the PNP.

Sayang naman at hindi kinuha ni kamatayan si piggy arroyo. Ang susunod sana ay si Mike, GMA at Corona. So many people dito sa forum are pitying him. Are they out of our minds. We should be celebrating na natangal and isang masamang inspiritu dito sa mundo.

Let those who are without sin cast the first stone. I'm saddened for the bad-mouthers here; the congressman has already died (may his soul rest in peace) and speaking ill of the dead is so out of taste and un-Filipino, I hope you ill-sayers reflect in your own lives and not engage in self-righteous hypocrisy as if you're all so pure and good.
