Mike Arroyo denies telling Grace to pull the plug
MANILA, Philippines - Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Tuason Arroyo Jr.'s common-law wife, Grace Ibuna, may be sued by the late lawmaker's legal wife for allegedly giving the go-signal to pull the plug on their clinically-dead husband.
Alicia Arroyo's lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, said they are planning to file charges against Ibuna for declaring that she is the legal wife of Iggy.
"To misrepresent that you are the spouse, when in fact you are not, to misrepresent or to actually go ahead and pull the plug, these are all multiple criminal offenses," Kapunan said.
Alicia said she would never have pulled the plug on Iggy.
Although their marriage was in the process of being annulled, she said it was never approved. She added the late lawmaker stopped going to their family home in La Vista, Quezon City in 2005.
"At the end of the day, he needs peace and healing. If we're all peaceful here, maybe it's easier for him to have everlasting happiness. It's all I do, I just pray. I lift everything up to the Lord," she said.
Clinically dead
Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel 'Mike' Arroyo told ABS-CBN News on Thursday that his brother was clinically dead and was only relying on life-support systems after he suffered a cardiac arrest in London, England on Wednesday.
He later announced that his brother died after life-support systems were removed from his body.
No one was with Iggy in London, except for Ibuna, whom he has lived with for years, according to ABS-CBN London correspondent Gene Alcantara.
Ibuna has declined to comment publicly about the threat of a lawsuit, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau chief Danny Buenafe said on TV Patrol on Friday.
Buenafe said he was able to talk to Ibuna, who said off-camera that the decision to pull the plug on Iggy Arroyo did not come from her.
Ibuna reportedly talked to Mike before doctors removed the life-support system from Iggy.

Mike, meanwhile, said on Friday that he did not order that his brother be removed from life support. "I did not order that," he said.
He said Ibuna asked him what to do. He reportedly told her, "I told her it's up to you. You're the one there."
"I never said that [ordered to pull the plug]. Sinabi niya sa akin kanina. I never told her to pull the plug," he said.
"She was asking me what to do. Better you discuss it with the daughter. She's telling us the hospital, prinessure siya ng hospital."
Ibuna said Bianca, the late lawmaker's daughter with his first wife, Marilen Jacinto, is expected to issue a statement regarding the issue after she arrives in London from Las Vegas to retrieve her father's remains.
Ibuna is a former girlfriend of actor Gabby Concepcion. They have a daughter, Gabrielle.
Liver ailment
The younger Arroyo went to London last year to seek treatment for a liver ailment. He was listed as one of the lawmakers with the most number of absences in the House of Representatives for 2011.
He earlier told ABS-CBN News last December that he had to stay longer in London because of his ongoing treatment.
He had also urged President Benigno Aquino III to show compassion to his sister-in-law, former President Gloria Arroyo, who is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center for electoral sabotage.
'Jose Pidal'
The younger Arroyo figured in the news in 2003 after he claimed ownership of the multi-million-peso "Jose Pidal" account, allegedly owned by his brother.
He again allegedly covered up for his brother after he claimed that he leased 5 helicopters from Lionair Inc. since 2004. Two of the second-hand choppers were allegedly sold to the Philippine National Police for $700,000 in 2009.
Arroyo's claim ran contrary to claims made by Lionair President Archibald Po that Mike Arroyo purchased and used the choppers before they were sold to the PNP.

they're no longer together
so why claim the body? unless if the body comes with the $$$$.
husband and wife mukhang pera hanggang sa kamatayan. pfffttt!!
no one has the rights to iggys body....
no one has the rights to the remains of iggy arroyo, unless he has will....Alicia Arroyo should stop claiming she was the one because you no longer is a wife as your marriage to Iggy Arroyo is already dissolved so you no longer is not a legal wife....Grace is not mistress because Iggy is considered as single again after the annulment and dissolution of his marriage to his last marriage....but then neither one has the rights to claim his body unless its the last wish ( writing / verbal) of the dying patient,,,and Euthanasia or mercy killing is mercilfully allowed in all medical practitioners without the kins consent if the dying patient is an adult .....
most comments think that
most comments think that where the congressman died is somewhere in the philippines..
i had said in my earlier post England uses a different health care system
maybe if one of them see and understand a patient on liverpool care pathway...[eto, the patient is still alive...can still talk to the family] they might think otherwise
WHEN IN ROME.....
Iggy's death
Big dog is totally right.Doctors here in UK can override the decision of the family esp brain dead na ang patient. They don't want to prolong the suffering as it is cruelty for them.Di kagaya sa atin na kahit gulay na ay bubuhayin pa rin dahil yun ang gusto ng family.Di natin alam kung doctors na mismo ang nag decide nun para sa best interest ng patient.REST IN PEACE IGGY ARROYO.....
complicated
This is a complicated issue because when giving opinion to issue that involve emotion.
However, solomon advise i think would be, to both real wife and Grace Ibuna would be "GIVE IGGY PEACE".
IGGY'S DEATH CONCLUDED HIS EARTHLY ACTIVITIES,LET THE ALMIGHTY GIVES HIS JUSTICE TO IGGY.
PEACE BE WITH YOU CONGRESSMAN IGGY ARROYO.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.
TO IGGY REAL WIFE, GIVE YOUR HUSBAND PEACE.
lol gallore in the ocean shore!!!
i wonder who big dog is?he has the most comments and replies in this forum...ano kuya?affcted masyado?hindi maka get over? hindi ka maka move on on iggy's death?hahah peace! as they say " everyone is entitled to their opinion"
UK law
In the context of health care, patients are often asked to nominate a next of kin when registering with their general practitioner, or alternatively on admission to hospital. Hospitals will then notify the next of kin that the patient has been admitted or if there is any change in their condition. If the patient is unconscious or otherwise unable to state their next of kin, hospitals will usually list their nearest blood relative, though there are no specific rules. Doctors attempt to seek the views of the next of kin when considering decision making for unconscious patients or those who lack capacity. The next of kin has no power to make any decisions regarding medical care, only to advise, and can neither override the previously stated wishes of the patient nor prevent the medical team acting in what they consider to be the best interests of the patient.
I agree 100% big
I agree 100% big dog....sounds like you're working in one of the hospitals here in UK.Iba talaga ang kultura nila kumpara sa atin.Tama ka din pagdating sa next of kin.di naman nila tinatanong on admission kung asawa ka ba o kabit ng pasyente? kung sino isabi ng pasyente na next of kin, irerespeto yun ng hospital kasi choice yun ng patient.Sa legality issues between Iggy's legal wife and Grace Ibuna, personal issues na nila yun.so, let's leave it to them na lang.
ethical dilemma
Dito ako based sa US at sa hospital nga ako nagwork...Hindi naman ethical dilemma na dito ang issue ng brain dead kase nga dito it means dead...No use of the life support...Suffering lang both sa family and pt kung itutuloy pa...Wala akong pakialam about their marital issues and political issues pero iba ang health care system sa US and UK...Meron dito na comfort care, DNR/DNI, hospice, etc...Hindi ito mercy killing...I think iyong pinas health care system should look at this practice...
pressure
I think grace ibuna ay nataranta and very stressed when she made the decision to cut off iggy's life support. she was the only 'next of kin' around when iggy died and when she ask mike arroyo for help and advice, mike was less than helpful. the hospital pressured grace to make a decision, any decision will do. decision like keeping iggy on the life support longer until such a time, the expenses paid for by his life insurance, or cutting off the life support sooner rather than later is also another decision, the one which grace ultimately took. I think the law will be lenient to grace.
