MANILA - Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo will be arraigned at the Sandiganbayan 2nd Division on Tuesday over the alleged fraudulent sale of second-hand helicopters to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in 2009.

Arroyo, husband of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is facing a graft charge for his alleged part in the P104.98-million deal that involved old helicopters being sold as new.

He will submit his plea for the hearing scheduled at 1:30 p.m., according to his lawyer, Edna Batacan.

Arroyo needs to be arraigned before the Sandiganbayan decides on his request for permission to travel abroad.

He is facing a separate graft case in connection with his alleged participation in the $329-million National Broadband Network (NBN) project.

Arroyo wants to travel to Japan in the first week of February to meet overseas Filipinos, according to his travel request.

He will also go to Hong Kong for the corporate planning work of officials of his family's holding company, Lourdes T. Arroyo (LTA) Inc.
