MANILA, Philippines - United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) secretary general Toby Tiangco believes the Aquino administration is not showing its political will to pass the controversial freedom of information (FOI) bill.

Tiangco said Malacañang has proven in the past that it can push for the passage of a specific bill in Congress. That political will is absent with regards to the FOI bill, he said.

"Yung experience natin sa [Reproductive Health] bill, pag sinabing gusto, nandun yung quorum," he said.

Tiangco twitted House Deputy Speaker Erin Tañada for failing to push for the bill. Tañada is the author of the FOI bill.

"You are the deputy speaker, an original LP member and you cannot put it into the order of business? Hindi mo na kailangang mag-parliamentary inquiry," the UNA official said.

UNA senatorial candidate Ernesto Maceda said the bill might have a better chance of being passed in the next Congress.
