MANILA - President Aquino's own relatives are now among the visitors of detained ailing former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC).

In a statement, Arroyo's chief of staff and spokesman Raul Lambino said former Tarlac Governor Margarita "Tingting" Cojuangco, aunt of President Aquino, is scheduled to visit Mrs. Arroyo today at 3 pm.

"Sometime November last year, former Congressman Mark Cojuangco of Pangasinan, son of Ambassador Danding Cojuangco, visited her. He even brought cooked food, like callos, for our lunch then," Lambino said.

Lambino denied any political undertones about these visits.

"There is nothing political here as what other people are speculating. There were no political discussion or talks of possible alliances that took place during the previous visits of well-known personalities. These visits are giving comfort to her current predicament, and strengthening her spirit to fight for her life and for truth and justice to prevail in the cases against her."

"FPGMA and her family are very grateful and thankful for the show of compassion and support from her visitors," Lambino added.

Some of the Cojuangcos are known allies of Mrs. Arroyo when she was president.

Tingting Cojuangco was also a member of the Arroyo administration, serving as presidential assistant. She is an aunt of President Aquino and wife of the younger brother of the late President Corazon Aquino.

Mark Cojuangco is the son of Corazon Aquino's second cousin.

On the Aquino side, President Aquino's aunt, Teresa Aquino Oreta, was a member of Arroyo's Team Unity in the 2007 elections.

Another aunt, Lupita Kashiwahara, was Arroyo's image consultant.
