Anti-dynasty bill faces rough sailing in Congress

MANILA - House Minority Leader Ronaldo Zamora on Wednesday said he sees rough sailing for the anti-political dynasty bill.

The bill was discharged by the House of Representatives committee on electoral reforms last year but has not been called in the plenary for deliberations.

"This is something that came up in the last few weeks. I suspect, if I'm to talk to them individually (members of the minority) I will not get a monolithic position either way. Give me a little chance to talk to them and I'll get back to you… Do you think it will pass easily?"

Zamora said he has no problems with the anti-political dynasty bill.

He noted that recently, the bench for government officials has been slanted in favor of the "rich and already powerful."

Many political dynasties sit in the House of Representatives.

The proposed bill bans relatives to the 2nd degree of affinity and consanguinity from succeeding or being elected at the same time as other family members.
