Former Philippine National Police chief Arturo Lomibao has been appointed to head the Land Transportation Office (LTO) while three other officials in the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and an attached agency were given new positions by President Arroyo, a statement from Malacañang said Monday.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, in a statement posted in the Web portal of the Office of the President, said that President Arroyo has named Lomibao to replace Alberto Suansing. Suansing meanwhile was appointed chairman of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Thomas Lantion, current LTFRB head, was appointed DOTC undersecretary while retired police general Reynaldo Berroya was appointed executive director of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3, said the Palace statement. Berroya was also a former LTO chief.

The statement said that the date of effectivity of the new appointments were not announced but said “it was widely believed that the changes in the DOTC key positions would take effect immediately.”
