Gloria can be treated as out-patient: doctor
MANILA, Philippines - Two motions were heard by Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) today in relation to charges of electoral sabotage against former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
WHAT IS OSTEOARTHRITIS?Osteoarthritis is also called "wear and tear" arthritis. It occurs when the cartilage cushioning the joints wears down, allowing the bones to rub together. This can cause pain, swelling and limited range of motion. It is a common joint disorder, and is related to aging. Symptoms usually appear in middle age. Other factors that can lead to osteoarthritis, according to the US National Library of Medicine, are extra weight (being overweight brings a higher risk), fractures or other pre-existing joint injuries, jobs that put stress on joints (lifting, climbing stairs, etc.), and playing sports that involve direct impact on joints (such as football). A study by Swedish scientists published in 2011 found that elite male athletes are at greater risk of developing this disease than men who exercise little or not at all. According to experts, physical activity has health benefits, so people should just avoid certain exercises which expose them to greater risk of injury. Recommended activities include swimming, cycling, moderate running and yoga. Doctors also recommend a healthy diet and enough rest to manage osteoarthritis. More serious conditions may require physical therapy or surgery. Sources: |
The first is a motion by the defense requesting the court to allow Mrs. Arroyo to attend the wake of his brother-in-law, the late representative Iggy Arroyo.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) lawyers, who act as prosecutors in this case, voiced no objection to the request.
However, details of the wake are still pending and no resolution can be made until the time and place of the event can be specified.
The Arroyo camp has also manifested their intent to request that she also be allowed to attend the funeral of Congressman Iggy, but this early, the Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed their reservation to the idea, citing the anticipated security nightmare.
The other motion that was tackled is the assertion of the COMELEC to transfer the former president to a regular detention facility.
Arroyo, who is facing electoral sabotage charges, is still under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) due to a lingering illness of the spine.
The court summoned Dr. Antonio Sison, an orthopedic surgeon at the VMMC, to testify on the medical condition of Arroyo.
He confirmed that Arroyo was suffering from cervical and lumbar osteoarthritis, which needed intensive physiotherapy.
While Dr. Sison testified that it is better for the former president to receive treatment in the hospital, he also conceded that she can be treated on an out-patient basis.
The defense however said there is no basis to say that Arroyo is already fit to be discharged from the hospital.
"The documents presented by the prosecution itself indicate that the president Arroyo is not yet well. Nevertheless, if the doctors say that she is fit to be discharged, then we will submit," said Arroyo lawyer Bejamin Santos.
Deliberations on the matter have not yet finished, and the court has reset the hearing to next Thursday.
Meanwhile, supporters of the embattled former president also gathered at the Pasay RTC to voice out their opposition her possible transfer to a regular detention facility.
The group, who call themselves Kongreso ng mga Mahihirap, brandished placards to amplify their call.
"Sobra na, tigilan na ang panghaharass, pagsilibihan nalang (ni PNoy) ang bayan," said Ramon De Leon, spokesperson of the group.
Joining them is Ang Galing partylist representative Mikey Arroyo, who also attended a mass in front of the RTC in support of his mother.
This judge should be
This judge should be castigated by the higher courts for jeopardizing the integrity of the court that he presides over. In the first place, GMA should not have been placed under arrest. The warrant of arrest was illegally issued/obtained - I talked to a veteran judge who said it was impossible to issue an arrest warrant in 3 hours without studying the case carefully and getting the other side, more so because it involves a previous president of the country. Obviously Judge Mupas, who has a reputation and a pending case because of moving very slowly in his cases, suddenly acted swiftly based the heresay affidavit of a sullied witness for personal gain (talks have it that Mar Roxas arranged with the judge some concessions just so that the arrest warrant will be issued immediately). I bet this judge will be promoted by Pnoy to justice after this case is finished.
3 Cents
In my personal opinion, if that's what it takes to jail a corrupt-killer-midget lil piece of sh*t, then by all means, it should happen. GMA has slapped the whole country with her OBVIOUS crimes, and that I think she deserves a death penalty. If was never been a heresay, her crimes were all over the country. You could start with that "Hello Garci" to Maguindano Massacre upto ZTE deal. Heck, going to a judge was just even a courtesy, she never even deserve that and that judge certainly needs a promotion. If you try to do it the long-way of acquiring proper arrest-warrant, the Aroyyos would been long gone along with the tax payer's money.
BANGON!!
osteoarthritis
The article that GMA has Osteo. This is the same problem on her neck that was called cervical spondylitis It was operated on at St Lukes H.
Any person can develop osteo after the age of 40.Can be present on any bone of the body more affected are the big joints, neck and lower back.
This not a reason for prolonged hospital stay now can be treated with Physio therapy anywhere.no need for hospital confinement.
Hmmn.
