Sol-Gen Cadiz resigns
MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - Solicitor General Jose Anselmo Cadiz has resigned, two Cabinet officials confirmed late on Sunday.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Cadiz quit last Friday.
"Yes, he personally tendered his resignation to the President last Friday," she said.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda also confirmed that Cadiz resigned.
Malacañang is expected to make an official announcement on Monday regarding the resignation.
Changes in legal team
In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN's Lynda Jumilla last December, President Aquino III revealed that he would make changes in his legal team and in some other positions in the Palace.
"Major positions but not necessarily the Cabinet... or there might be movements within the Cabinet," he said.
He also said the Palace legal team was "being improved."
When asked if this means people will be removed or added to the team, the President only replied, "You can say that."
Aquino did not name the officials who would be affected by the changes.
ABS-CBN News sources, however, said at that time that the move could affect Cadiz.
Cadiz was a former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP). He played an active role in the Aquino presidential campaign. -- reports from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News; Ira Pedrasa, ABS-CBNnews.com; ANC; Lynda Jumilla, ABS-CBN News
