German foreign minister to visit PH
MANILA, Philippines - German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will visit the Philippines on February 7 and 8, the first time that a German foreign minister visited the country in more than 12 years.
The German dignitary will have a courtesy call to President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday and will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto del Rosario.
Westerwelle’s visit is the first by a German foreign minister in more than 12 years and reciprocates an official trip to Germany by Del Rosario last December. The last German foreign minister who visited the Philippines was Hans-Dietrich Genscher in July 2000.
According to the German Philippine Chamber of Commerce, Westerwelle will be accompanied by a group of business executives from key industries including Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG, the largest engineering and consulting company in Germany; TUV Rheinland AG, a leading technical service provider; Rohde & Schwarz Vertriebs GmbH, which specializes on radio communications for aviation, defense, security and protection of critical infrastructure.
A representative of Fraport AG will also be joining the delegation. Fraport operates the Frankfurt International Airport and several other airports around the world. With Philippine Star
