Noynoy losing support of masses, surveys show
MANILA, Philippines - Senator Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III has been losing support from the lower-income sectors of society as Senator Manny Villar's massive marketing campaign aimed at winning the hearts of the poor pays off.
The Villar camp sent out on Sunday the results of a January 22-26, 2010 Pulse Asia survey asking respondents who they would vote for if the choice was just between Aquino and Villar.
A survey that takes out the rest of the presidential candidates makes it easier to isolate the possible reasons behind the rise and fall of their ratings.
The January 22-26 survey results show a statistical tie with 46% of respondents choosing Villar and 45% picking Aquino. The survey has a 2% plus/minus margin of error.
When respondents were asked the same question in October 22-23, or over two months after the death of former President Corazon Aquino, Aquino still had a 30 percentage-point lead over Villar (Aquino 62%; Villar 32%).
Why the big drop?
A look at the results of the January 22-26 survey shows that Aquino's support from the D households, also referred to as the "masa" (masses), fell from 60% in October 2009 to 47% in January 2010, a drop of 13 percentage points.
Aquino's support from E households, the lowest socio-economic class, fell from 66% in October 2009 to 50% January 2010, a decline of 16 percentage points.
In the Philippines, the D and E households comprise around 90% of the voting population.
Even among the upper-income households (ABC), support for Aquino dropped from 67% in October 2009 to 52% in January 2010, a decline of 15 percentage points.
Cory magic fades
On the other hand, Villar's pro-poor marketing campaign is working like magic as the so-called Cory magic wears off on Aquino. (Read: 'Cory Magic' wearing off on Noynoy?)
From October 2009 to January 2010, Villar gained 10 percentage points among the D households (from 34% to 44%), and 20 percentage points among E households (from 30% to 50%).
Support for Villar from the upper-income households (ABC) also went up from 22% in October 2009 to 37% in January 2010, an increase of 15 percentage points.
Villar has been outspending his rivals in political ads by a ratio around 7 to 1. He spent over P500 million in the last three months of 2009, making him the only presidential candidate in the top 20 advertisers during that period. The rest were the usual big multinational companies that advertize heavily such as Unilever and Procter & Gamble. (Read: Print still losing ground to TV, radio)
Celebrities such as older-generation comedy king Dolphy Quizon and young-generation comedy star Michael V have endorsed Villar. Filipino boxing champion and hero Manny Pacquiao is also backing Villar. The latest celebrity to endorse Villar is singer Sarah Geronimo.
The real estate property tycoon also has segments in noontime shows Eat Bulaga and Wowowee where hosts give out cash and prizes courtesy of Villar.
It remains to be seen, however, whether the C-5 scandal and his ethics case in the Senate will have an impact in the February 2010 surveys. The January 22-26 results failed to capture the impact of that news. -- Isagani de Castro Jr., abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak

kabutihan ng bansa
Ang dami na nating nadaanan sa buhay, history ng ating bansa...from marcos...nag unite na tayo para maiahon at maging malaya...At the time of Cory, ilang coup ang nag wasak sa ating bansa dahil sa mga taong ang sarili lang ang iniisip..FVR maraming issues ang binitawan at tayong nagwatak watak ulit...Ng time ni Estrada, mostly and bumoto ang mahihirap dahil sia daw ay sa mahirap pero ano ang nangyari..lalo tayong humirap ...people nag isa ulit para iahon ang pilipinas sa tingin natin magaling at isang economista si GMA... Si Miriam Santiago, 754 bills in the same period as Noynoy. Ano ba yan, mas maraming nakikitang problema si Miriam kesa kay Noynoy. Someone also posted that Trillanes himself, the jailed senator has filed 117+ bills! Que horror!
Yung accomplishments na hinahanap natin ay yung may resulta. Hindi yung naka-file lang. What about nung Senator na siya? Ano-ano ang mga projects na nilaanan niya ng pork barrel niya? Does anybody have any idea kung saan dinadala ni Noynoy ang pork barrel niya?

Hacienda Luisita in 2014?
History is repeating itself on this one. Cory was once asked about this while campaigning opposite Marcos back in the 80's. Ang sagot ni Cory, "Yes". Pero naibigay ba? Hinde.
If sincere talaga sila na ibibigay sa magsasaka ang pinangakong lupa sa Hacienda Luisita, NUON PA DAPAT IBINIGAY.
Noynoy, competent? Nakakatawa naman. Kung yung sariling niyang kampo nagkakagulo ngayon dahil hindi niya ma-manage ng tama, yan ba ang taong competent? Hinayaan nilang makahabol si Villar sa ratings kahit na alam nila na consistent ang pagtaas nito since last year, yan ba ang taong competent? Kung kelan naabutan na siya saka sila nagkakandarapa ng pag-iisip ng paraan para lalong marinig ng maraming tao si kalbo.
To sum it up, pangako lang na hindi matutupad ang 2014 nila. It happened before, it will DEFINITELY happen again. Competence? Ang taong competent, aaksyon agad bago pumutok ang problema sa mukha nila. Clearly Noynoy is just full of promises which he can't keep and a very very INCOMPETENT person.
