Banks risk contempt if they refuse subpoenas - Tañada
MANILA, Philippines - House prosecution panel spokesman Rep. Lorenzo Tañada III on Tuesday warned banks they risk being cited in contempt of the Senate impeachment court should they refuse to heed the subpoenas for the bank records of Chief Justice Renato Corona and his wife, Cristina.
"Para sa akin they have no choice but to cooperate with the subpoena issued by court. This is compulsory, process galing sa impeachment tribunal. It's their right to do so (go to court). If they violate order of court, they maybe cited in contempt of rules ng trial," he said.
Tañada's reaction came after Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago moved to reconsider the issuance of the subpoena.
He said Santiago is within her right to do so but unless the court rules otherwise, the bank officials still have to appear on Wednesday, February 8, as stated in the subpoena.
The spokesman said presenting Corona's bank records will not weaken bank secrecy laws since it does not happen everyday.
"Tignan po natin. Sa tingin ko, may karapatan. This doesn't happen everyday. Private depositors are protected so ang tinitignan natin at sinasabi ng Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile when time comes. Kailangan i-prove relevance. Mas maganda magdesisyon ang impeach tribunal para mabalikan if ever there's going to be future impeachment," he said.
He reiterated that under the Code of Ethics of Government Officials and the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Corona should not accept gifts like pro bono legal services. This is why Tañada called on Corona's lawyers to disclose their cases for other clients before the courts in the spirit of fairness.
He also said prosecutors no longer felt it necessary to compel the presence of Philippine Airlines lawyer Estelito Mendoza before the impeachment court, noting his letters to the court regarding the FASAP case is enough.
Aside from this, the prosecution also intends to present Mr. Lauro Vizconde and an official of the John Hay Development Corporation as witnesses with regards to article 3, on the moral fitness of Corona.

$$$ bank accounts ni Corona
May pahintulot si Corona na buksan natin ang kanyang $$$ bank accounts. Bago magsimula ang hearing ang wika ni Corona, “I’ll execute a deed of donation. If they can show my properties, I’ll just give it to them." Ngayon po ay lumalabas na may properties si Corona in the form of $$$ bank accounts bakit di po natin busisiin ito? Binigyan na po tayo ng pahintulot ni Corona na kung mapapatunayan natin na may iba pa siyang ari-arian ay atin na ito. Wala na pong makakapigil sa pagbukas ng mga $$$ accounts ni Corona. Magkano kaya ang laman nito?
▼▼▼If that is the case, Let us boycott these banks▼▼▼
If any of the bank themselves is preventing the release of the subpoenaed bank documents
then we,
the Filipino people
should boycott them by withdrawing our accounts from these banks.
If it is PSBank or BPI who is asking for a TRO from the supreme court,
then Let us start the snowball effect into a nationwide boycott.
PSBank, MetroBank and Federalland are owned by the Tys (George Ty)
while BPI,Globe,Ayalamalls are owned by the Ayalas
and if they push through with there threat
to seek a TRO from the Supreme Court whose Chief Justice was impeached
then we should not support these banks.
I will withdraw all of my accounts from these bank
for the support of the Filipino People.
They should not coddle hoodlum in robes,
and they should not be the protectors of corrupt government officials.
