Corona's lawyer welcomes TRO on dollar accounts
MANILA, Philippines - A lawyer of impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona on Thursday said the Supreme Court's move stopping the Senate from compelling Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) to present documents on the foreign currency deposits of Corona is a positive development.
"It's a positive note. It confirms the confidentiality of bank FCDU [Foreign Currency Deposit Unit] records but since it is not our application, it is not in any way an indication on how the SC will act with regards to our motion," defense counsel Tranquil Salvador said.
The Supreme Court, in a vote of 8-5, has issued an indefinite temporary restraining order (TRO) on the subpoena issued by the impeachment court on Corona's alleged dollar accounts in PSBank.
"If the impeachment court does not heed the TRO issued by the SC, the action will be taken by PSBank, not by us because we are not a party to this," Salvador added.
He said a Supreme Court appointee of President Benigno Aquino was among the 8 justices who voted in favor of the TRO.
"Magandang indikasyon ni Justice [Bienvenido] Reyes kahit appointee siya ni PNoy na nakikita nila yung dahilan kung bakit dapat sundin ang batas," Salvador said.

in long line of sc decisions, phils and abroad, public interest is paramount over individual rights, even rights conferred under the law. the strict bank secrecy laws should be suject to the impeachment process provided for in the consti because it concerns the greater good. corona's rights under banking laws should be subjugated to the need to find out if he is fit to hold the position of cj, which is undeniably of supreme public interest.

CJ CORONA PURCHASED A LOT OF PROPERTIES WHOSE AMOUNT ARE BEYOND HIS PAYROLL.
HE DID NOT DISCLOSE HIS TRUE NETWORTH IN SALN.
HE IS INJECTING POLITICS BY USING HIS EMPLOYEES TO RALLY SUPPORT FOR HIM. (Please don't tell us they volunteered)
For these reasons alone, he does not deserve to be a member of the Supreme Court.
CJ CORONA SHOULD RESIGN. SAVE THE INTEGRITY OF THE SUPREME COURT, PLEASE, RESIGN.
CORONA GOT TAINTED WITH GMA'S VENOM
If CJ Corona has a slice of integrity remaining in his body, he should voluntarily open his dollar account. Remember a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court must possess qualities seldom found in politicians- unquestionable integrity and honesty. He must prove to all that he is not tainted with GMA's venom.
OPEN YOUR ACCOUNT VOLUNTARILY.
RA 1405
RA 6426 was amended through PD 1035, which states:
Sec(8):....The secrecy of deposits under this Act shall be governed in accordance with the provisions of Republic Act Numbered One Thousand Four Hundred Five...
And RA 1405 states:
Sec(2): All deposits of whatever nature with banks or banking institutions in the Philippines including investments in bonds issued by the Government of the Philippines, its political subdivisions and its instrumentalities, are hereby considered as of an absolutely confidential nature and may not be examined, inquired or looked into by any person, government official, bureau or office, EXCEPT upon written permission of the depositor, or IN CASES OF IMPEACHMENT, or upon order of a competent court in cases of bribery or dereliction of duty of public officials, or in cases where the money deposited or invested is the subject matter of the litigation.
Thus, it is clear that TRO is contrary to RA 1405.
Boycott
Foreign Currency Deposit Act specifically states that a disclosure of foreign currency bank accounts can only be made upon written permission from the depositor.
The above paragraph these bankers keep saying like a litany.
What these bankers do not divulge is that such rule only applies to foreign business investors. Corona is not a foreign investors.

Nasa Constitution yong mga government official dapat magdivulge ng SALN sa public. Kung di superior ang SC, bakit nagawa nilang mag issue ng circular na ang mga justices ng SC ay pwede lang magfile at di di pwedeng ilabas sa public on their assumption, suspicion na baka gamitin ito sa kanila kung gagawa sila ng adverse decision. Kung ang executive, senate at congress ay di exempted, bakit sila nagagawa ito. Asan ang co equal dyan. Sabi nga ng defense ni Corona yong ill gotten ay suspicion lang kaya sila nag oobject. Corona should give consent to open dollar acct
If he has nothing to hide then he himself should authorize the opening of his dollar acct. Prinsipyo ba o dollar acct lang ang pinaglalaban ni Corona. If he will continue to hide behind the Bank Secrecy law then he should just resign. He does not fit to be a Chief Justice.
