MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) seemed to soften its position on their request to transfer former president Gloria Arroyo to a regular detention facility.

After hearing the testimony of Arroyo's doctors at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) last week, prosecutors said they submit to the medical reports indicating that the former president needed additional physiotherapy in the hospital.

They clarified however that they were not withdrawing their motion, and were simply submitting to the discretion of the court.

The Comelec however requested a bimonthly medical report on Arroyo from the VMMC to be able to monitor her health on a regular basis.

Judge Jesus Mupas also directed the hospital to produce a report on the medical expenses of the former president, as these are being shouldered by the government.

Court spokesperson Felda Domingo said this will also be a factor in deciding whether or not Arroyo should continue to stay at the VMMC.

Meanwhile, former Maguindanao provincial election supervisor Lintang Bedol's pending motion for judicial determination of probable cause is still being heard by the court. The defense and prosecution were given 10 days to submit their respective memoranda to Judge Mupas.

Bedol counsel Atty. Reynaldo Prinsesa said his client was innocent of the charges and instead pointed a finger at former Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos as the person behind the alleged cheating in the 2007 elections.

Prinsesa said they plan to present 3 witnesses to prove their claim.
