Villar: I am not Arroyo’s ‘secret’ candidate
MANILA, Philippines - Presidential aspirant Manuel Villar denied on Wednesday rumors and claims made by the Liberal Party that he is the secret candidate of President Arroyo.
In a speech before the Makati Business Club (MBC), Villar said he has never spoken to President Arroyo since he was ousted as the Senate president in November 2008.
"I'm supposed to be the candidate of GMA [President Arroyo],” he said, acknowledging text messages that have been circulating.
In denying the rumors, he said: “I have never talked to President Arroyo and the First Gentleman. I have never been to Syria. I have never been to the house of [Mike] Defensor.”
He was referring to reports that he met with the Arroyos during their trip to Syria. Defensor is a former congressman and staunch Arroyo ally.
He also blurted, "I was supposed to have slept in the house of Ampatuans before the massacre." He shook his head and smiled before adding, “Wow!” The crowd of businessmen laughed and clapped.
The Ampatuan clan was allegedly involved in the gruesome killing of over 50 people, including media, lawyers, and family members of a political foe. The crime happened in Maguindanao November 23, 2009.
Nobody’s crony
Villar stressed his independence.
“I am nobody’s crony in business and politics. I have always been independent. Some of my critics may have forgotten that,” he told the MBC members.
Roxas, during the first day of official campaign period on February 9, called him “Villarroyo,” implying that Villar and President Arroyo are alike. (Read: Roxas calls NP bet 'Villarroyo' in a portion of this story.)
Villar is running under the Nacionalista Party, while President Arroyo is with the Lakas-Kampi party, which is fielding Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro as the party’s presidential candidate for the May 10 elections.
Villar’s ratings in the poll surveys have vastly improved, placing him in a statistical tie with frontrunner Aquino in Pulse Asia’s latest survey results.
Survey ratings of Teodoro, on the other hand, have remained at single-digit levels.

ARROYO - AQUINO IS POSSIBLE!
You need to check more. There are a lot of Aquino/Cojuanco members in top government positions in the Arroyo Administration.
I am not for Mr. Villar but my vote and my family's vote will never go to the one with the weakest credential (among the top presidential candidates)... it's the one wearing yellow.
NOT SECRET BUT THE "ONLY" CANDIDATE
Manny Villar needs ALL the help he can gather to escape responsibility in the C5 mess. No doubt about it, he is courting Arroyo's support because BOTH ARROYO AND VILLAR NEEDS TO ANSWER SOME OF THE WORSE CORRUPTION CASES HERE IN THE COUNTRY.
Noynoy is a threat to their freedom, to their plan to further advance their personal interest and the billions that they can get from the government.
Yes, the Aquino's used to support Arroyo. Who doesn't? Everyone who participated in the last people power revolution are guilty of supporting Arroyo, who now we know as the most corrupt president that ever seated in Malacanang Palace. Arroyo betrayed everyone, including the Aquino's. The "Hello Garci" tape proves that Arroyo used her position to cheat the election.
With Arroyo's involvement in so many scams in our government and Villar's involvement in C5 mess that made him a "MULTI-BILLIONAIRE" is something that we should be aware of and a proof that there is or there will be an ALLIANCE TO ESCAPE RESPONSIBILITY, TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE GOVERNMENT COFFERS.

Kuya Rey, I support Mar but it doesn't mean that I support his decision to run with Noy. By the end of the day, individuality always persist. That's why its always great to watch how politician plays during election time, remember Aquino used to be with Arroyo. So you never know who is for who. Just a thought kuya Rey.

Get with the program and stop the rip. If truly you are for Mar, then you would support/respect his decision. Do you not trust his decision to joined Noynoy? Please do not fret........
My Hope...
My hope is that Noy will wake up one morning realizing that he is not actually capable of running a country and quit the election. Realizing that his not even able to run his own life.
Can somebody awaken Noy that Mar is running his own campaign? Here in Pangasinan, there are Mar's volunteers campaigning for him but tells people to chose the right candidate for president without naming Noy, funny huh. I always wonder why Mar is not funding Noy's campaign. I wish Mar will win this election to prove that he is liken more than Noy.
My hope...
It's still my hope that Gordon, Madrigal, Villanueva, De los Reyes, and Perlas withdraw their candidacy and choose to back the frontrunning Aquino. Anyway, they have very similar approach to major issues like corruption, poverty, and education. If they would be given good positions later by Aquino, that would be alright since they would probably complement each other and would be supplementary to Aquino's.
I truly hope some group will campaign for this alliance. Heaven would probably come down to the Philippines.
It will surely thwart the Villar, Teodoro, Erap, Acosta deception conspiracy which will bring down the Philippines again and put us back generations behind Vietnam and perhaps Burma and Laos. Hell will break loose in the Philippines.
