CBCP official urges Corona to open dollar accounts
MANILA, Philippines - An official of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has joined calls for Chief Justice Renato Corona to allow the opening of his dollar deposits in Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank).
In an article written in CBCPNews, Fr. Edu Gariguez of the CBCP’s National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA) said opening the accounts is necessary for Corona to prove that he has nothing to hide.
He added that opening the accounts will clear Corona of allegations of corruption.
“He (Corona) should allow his bank accounts to be examined and prove that there’s nothing with it,” said Gariguez.
“From the start, he said that his conscience is clear and he is willing to undergo the impeachment. So what’s in there that he is afraid of?”
PSBank President Pascual Garcia III earlier confirmed the authenticity of 5 account numbers, which the prosecution claims are Corona's dollar accounts.
Garcia said he could not disclose anything related to dollar accounts because of the confidentiality of these accounts under Republic Act 6426 or the Foreign Currency Deposit Act.
He also cited the bank's petition for a TRO on the Senate subpoena for Corona's dollar deposits, which was granted on Thursday.

to open or not to open corona's dollar account is not important already after corona admitted his 37million pesos deposet in Ps bank.. Me in my self was not fully convince that corona really thief but after I heard directly from his mouth that he widraw the 37 million pesos because he lost trust to ps bank then I believe that he is really thief and lier ..

Tama! Kung walang tinatago, ipakita na. O baka kasi pinatago sa kanya ang laman ng dollar account niya, du kaya si GMA din ang may patago...ganun niya kamahal si GMA, gaya ng sabi niya, kamatayan lang ang makakapaalis sa kanya sa SC...gagawin niya pang kriminal ang madlang pipol!!!

Wala pong kunsiyensa itong si Corona, tulad ni Arroyo. Pasimba-simba ang mga kawatan na ito at galante kung mag-donate sa simbahan at malaki po talaga ang nagagawa ng pera. Ipaubaya na lang natin sa BIR ang lahat at doon na lang po sila magpaliwanag. Wala po tayong mahihita sa korte suprema, may mga $$$ accounts din po ang mga ito kaya ayaw pabuksan ang mga accounts ni Corona. Wala pong pangimi kung lumabag ng batas ang mga ito. Sana naman magbago ang Pinas.
