After Ruby, will Napoles turn state witness?
MANILA - Malacañang said there has been no overtures from the camp of Janet Napoles that she intends to become a state witness in cases against alleged perpetrators of the pork barrel scam.
“We will cross the bridge when we get there... Number one, there has been no overtures...Hindi namin alam kung meron. So we are not in a position to say. Nasa Department of Justice na po yan kung sakaling merong offer. But wala pa akong knowledge kung meron e," Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.
Napoles is accused of masterminding the scam, which allegedly saw billions of pesos in lawmakers' priority development assistance funds being funneled to foundations that she set up.
Napoles has denied the allegations. She is currently incarcerated at Fort Santo Domingo in Laguna on a serious illegal detention charge filed by one of the pork scam whistle-blowers.
Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago earlier backed a proposal to tap Napoles as a state witness, saying that news reports point to Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile as the mastermind of the pork barrel scam.
