Team PNoy's pol ads not allowed - Brillantes
MANILA - The administration Team PNoy has no right to broadcast its coalition political advertisements when the official campaign period begins.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said Team PNoy is not a duly registered political coalition, unlike the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
Brillantes said that as a registered coalition, UNA has the right to political advertising. The latter is also independent of the candidates' own advertisements.
Team PNoy, composed of the Liberal Party, Nacionalista Party, Nationalist People's Coalition, Akbayan and the National Unity Party, can only use the airtime allocated to their respective parties. "We'll charge it to the parties involved.”
Meanwhile, Brillantes said the appearance of guest candidates in slate advertisements will not be charged against their individual advertising allotments since they filed as independent candidates. Instead, the ads will be charged against those who paid for them.
Nonetheless, he said they will further review the rules. “Ayaw naming masyado maging mahigpit, baka wala na magkampaniya eh."
He said the poll body will just keep monitoring candidates' airtime usage unless the Supreme Court issues a restraining order against the aggregate airtime limits.
Still, in case the Comelec's aggregate limits are upheld, Brillantes warned: “Then lahat ng lagpas, delikado sila, they're taking a very big risk.”
The Comelec is prepared to comment on the petitions against the aggregate airtime limits filed by GMA Network Inc., and TV5.
Brillantes expects senatorial candidates to advertise via the big networks.
