Malacanang to defense: Prove your allegations
MANILA, Philippines - Malacanang challenged the defense to prove allegations that it attempted to bribe senator-judges not to honor a Supreme Court order.
In a press conference, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said, “he who alleges, must prove the same…It’s not our obligation to prove or deny.”
On Sunday, the defense alleged Malacanang offered P100 million for senators to skirt around the Supreme Court-issued temporary restraining order on the subpoena issued on Chief Justice Renato Corona’s alleged dollar accounts.
They said it was Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa who was “contacting and phoning” senator-judges friendly to the Palace.
Lacierda said the defense is already trying to muddle the issue. “They could not anymore defend the Chief Justice…A judgment of conviction would have been tainted because of the alleged offer.”
He said the Department of Budget and Management has yet to issue guidelines on the release of the priority development assistance fund (PDAF).
Citing a “very reliable source,” the defense said the budget is supposed to be released this week and will be used for “soft projects.”
Early in the day, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority already denied the funds will come from the agency. Soft projects usually come in the form of scholarships, etc.
Lacierda said the release of the PDAF “is not something out of the blue.” At least P200 million is released per year. “Nasa budget yan.”
He also said he does not know why it was Ochoa who is being dragged into the issue. “It could be the close proximity.”
He denied there are quarters who just want to replace Ochoa. In the meantime, Ochoa still has not disclosed any plans of filing a case against the defense, he said.
INC role
Meanwhile, Lacierda said he doesn’t believe there is a “crack” in the relationship of Aquino and the influential Iglesia ni Cristo.
INC members have supposedly been active in organizing pro-Corona rallies. The chief magistrate’s lead defense counsel, Serafin Cuevas, is a member of the INC.
“We have not received any official word from the leadership either denying or confirming…If they do not deny nor confirm, we respect that.”
Asked if he finds it necessary for the Palace to talk to the INC, he said: “The relationship between the Executive is the same to all religious denominations…It’s a good practice to be in touch.”
Asked how important an ally is the INC, he said: “We’d rather have allies than enemies.”

kangaroo court!
the senate sitting as an impeachment court allowed itself to be used and abused for persecution campaign and for fishing expedition. first, it rejected the motion of the defense to set a preliminary hearing. thus wasting the time of the impeachment court in the conduct of such hearing.
the senate in exercise of liberality has gone overboard in admitting questionable evidences coming from the pro...secution. take for instance the issuance of subpoena to PS bank and BPI. the bank documents submitted by the prosecution instrumental to the issuance of subpoena is evidently acquired illegally. the president of PS bank himself said during the hearing that no one from their bank has allowed the release of such documents. he further argued that there are differences between the bank documents of corona in PS bank and the documents presented by the prosecution.
if the president of PS bank is saying that they did not allow the release of such documents, and that no one from their bank has ever released such documents, it is safe to say that the bank documents presented by the prosecution is either fake or illegal. since the senate allowed the prosecution to use such documents acquired illegally, then they as an impeachment court lose the credibility to hear and decide this impeachment case.
the SC should stop the impeachment of corona, now!
