Binay on Erap: Bati na kami!
MANILA - Vice President Jejomar Binay has patched things up with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada after their rift over Central Market in Sta. Cruz.
Speaking on "Aquino and Abunda Tonight" on Friday, Binay said that he has already apologized to Estrada.
"Naku, tapos na kami diyan," he said, referring to their "tampuhan" stemming from his refusal to approve Estrada's request to re-develop Central Market.
Estrada wanted to enter a public-private partnership with SM Development Corp., which has offered to rebuild the Central Market into a 3-level structure with a grocery on the ground level and roof-deck parking.
However, the city of Manila has no rights over the Home Guaranty Corp. (HGC) property, preventing the local government from re-developing it.
HGC is a shelter agency under the Binay-headed Housing and Urban Development Council.
The Vice President said he was the one who approached Estrada to apologize at the birthday party of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile held Thursday.
"Kagabi, sinabi ko na sa kanya na 'Sir, I'm sorry kung ang presentation ko was not very acceptable,'" Binay said.
He explained that all actions related to the sale of the Old Bilibid Compound – a huge parcel of land where Central Market stands – have to be reviewed by the Department of Finance and must undergo public bidding.
"Alam mo 'yung Central Market is only part of a big property. 'Yun Central Market, maliit na portion lang 'yun," he said. -- with reports from Carmina Reyes and Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News
