Tiangco on Erap-Binay rift: It's just LQ

MANILA -- United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) secretary general Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco denied that the UNA is crumbling following reports that there is a gap between UNA stalwarts Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Vice President Jejomar Binay over the redevelopment of a district in Manila.

"Tampuhan lang iyan. As in lovers' quarrel (LQ). Kung hindi nagmamahalan yan, hindi magkakatampuhan. At dahil nagmamahalan, pang-Valentine's talaga, hehehe," Tiangco said in a text message.

Estrada and Binay are at odds this Valentine's after the former Philippine president failed to get the latter's outright approval to re-develop the iconic Central Market in Manila.

Estrada wanted to enter into public-private partnership with SM Development Corp. which has offered to rebuild the Central Market in Sta. Cruz, Manila into a 3-level structure with a grocery on the ground level and roof-deck parking.

However, the city of Manila has no rights over the property that prevents the local government from developing the market, according to Home Guaranty Corp. (HGC), which owns the property.

HGC is a shelter agency under the Housing and Urban Development Council (HUDCC) that is headed by Binay. It provides government guarantees for loans that bankroll housing projects.

Tiangco, meanwhile, sidestepped a question on whether there is distance between Estrada's son, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, and another UNA pillar, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, after the testimony of Ruby Tuason on Thursday.

Senator Antonio Trillanes had hinted that those tagged in the pork barrel scam are already junking each other.

"Lumalabas nagkakalaglagan na sila. Simple lang. Si Enrile di nag-comment, masaya siya siguro yung isa umaray. Laglagan na ito," Trillanes said.

Sought for his comment, Tiangco said, "Ang malaking question diyan sa PDAF scam na yan is bakit wala pang LP (Liberal Party) na nakakasuhan up to now. Just read the COA (Commission on Audit) report. May mga LP doon na dapat makasuhan ng plunder based on that report. Bakit hindi nila kinakasuhan yun?"
