'P37M in CJ's accounts Basa Guidote's money'
MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) - Defense lawyers explained on Thursday that Chief Justice Renato Corona had to close 3 peso accounts in Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) on the day he was impeached since the money was not his but his wife's company, Basa Guidote Enterprises Inc (BGEI).
Defense spokesman Tranquil Salvador III said questions regarding Corona's bank accounts will be answered when the defense presents its evidence.
He said the money in 3 PSBank accounts that were closed Dec. 12, 2011, the same day that Corona was impeached by the House of Representatives, belongs to BGEI, which Mrs. Corona and her relatives own.
"Sa Basa-Guidote po yun. Company nila," he said. "Iyung detalye na yan ipapakita naman once we present our case."
Salvador, however. did not say where the money from the closed accounts went.
PSBank Katipunan Branch Manager Annabelle Tiongson revealed on day 19 of the trial that Corona closed 3 multi-million peso accounts:
- Account 089121019593 was closed on December 12, 2011. It was opened on December 22, 2009 with an amount of P8,500,000. It had P12,580,316,56 as of end-2010.
- The other account that was closed on December 12, 2011 was 089121021681. It was opened on September 1, 2010 with an amount of P7,090,099.45. As of end-2010, the amount was at P7,148,238.83.
- The other account, which was not a subject of a subpoena, was also closed on the same date. It had an initial deposit of P17 million on June 29, 2011.
Defense lawyers also issued a statement denying that Mrs. Corona had texted journalists explaining why the peso accounts were closed on December 12, 2011, the day her husband was impeached by the House of Representatives.
"It has come to my attention that a certain Tina Corona has texted a media personality. I have not done that and I have not interacted with any media since the impeachment case has been referred to the Senate for trial. I hope media outfits are responsible enough to check and verify your sources before issuing any report. Please be fair," she said.
In the text message which she disowned, it said the money in the peso accounts came "from City of Manila expropriation."
"He deposited it for me for convenience. I was often in Baguio. It's not his funds that's why it's not in his SALN," the text message said.
Corona's defense team previously pointed out that BGEI earned P34 million after one of its properties was expropriated by the City of Manila in 2001. -- with reports from Jing Castañeda, Ina Reformina, RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News

Thief Justice Renato Corona wants to project the image that he is a loving husband to his wife, Cristina. The fact is, the Chief Justice has not only betrayed the public trust but most importantly, has betrayed his marital vow.
If the Thief Justice is man enough, He should admit the fact that he has a long-standing romantic relationship with a gentle lady named EVA with whom the Thief Justice has two (2) illegitimate sons. EVA also hails from Batangas and had her education from Assumption College just like his wife Cristina who also graduated earlier from the same school.
For Chief Justice Renato C. Corona not to mention his children with EVA as if they do not exist at all, is the highest form of ignominy and immorality that he can commit not only against his legitimate wife and family but against his oath as the highest magistrate of the land.
An inquiry into his relationship with EVA and his illegitimate children in connection with the on-going impeachment trial becomes extremely necessary in the light of the properties given by the Chief Justice to them. EVA, who has previously undergone a heart bypass operation, is known not to have worked from the time she had this romantic liaison with the Thief Justice nor does she have any known business of her own and yet, EVA is luxuriously living in the United States, together with her two (2) illegitimate children with the good Chief Justice.
The SALN of CJ Corona does not indicate any such properties.
And the reason for the frequent trips of CJ Corona to the United States, the latest of which was late last year, was to visit EVA and his children with her. That CJ Corona could afford to support the kind of luxurious lifestyle of EVA and her children in the U.S. is certainly for the Thief Justice to explain considering his small salary.
A simple investigation on the identity and circumstances of EVA can easily be done by a simple inquisition in Batangas as well as from the classmates, relatives and friends of EVA and of CJ Corona.
I know these facts because EVA is a relative of mine and it pains me immensely to see the Thief Justice professing his love for Cristina on nationwide television when he has confessed to...show more show less

Wala, his office is a public trust. Tiwala ay walang-wala sa isip ng taong bayan para kay Corona nakakalungkot man pero ito ang katotohan hanggat hindi nya pinabubuksan atipapabuksan ng Impeachment Court ang dollar account ni Corona mananatiling walang tiwala ang taong bayan sa kanya. Di ba inutang ni thief Corona yung pera ng BGEI na nasa account ni thief corona para pambili ng mamahaling condo. Ngayon nung binabayaran nya yung inutang nya sa BGEI, saan nya ilalagay yung bayad nya, di siempre sa account din nya dahil duon nakalagay sa account ni thief Corona ang pera BGEI! Malinaw ba?
Pero nakakahilo talaga ang explanation nila, kaya yung dati nang baliw na nasira na ulit ang ulo dahil di nya maintidahan yung explanation ng depensang sa kasong ito!

We read from Raissa Robles's Blog: "Two years after Corona told Marichu (Villanueva of Philippine Star) and other reporters that “From the very beginning, I have purposely stayed away from the financial and material affairs of my in-laws,” he obtained an P11 million “cash advance” from Basa-Guidote Enterprises."
With what's going in the impeachment trial of CJ Corona, I was reminded of a tale (not original): A long time ago, a noble and his wife were punished by the king. The husband was made to stand in a pool of shit. But the people were amazed he did not sink because the pool was much deeper. It turned out the noble was standing on the shoulders of his wife.
NOBODY WILL BELIEVE THE DEFENSE
A Corporation always has its own bank account under its corporate name and authorized signature or signatures to withdraw or deposit are approved by the board. We are not stupid.
The money belongs to CJ Corona. That is a cheap shot. KITANG-KITA.
