MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III recognized achievers from the persons-with-disabilities (PWD) sector during the 40th anniversary celebration of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan (TWH) in its center in Cainta, Rizal.
Among those given achievement awards were:
paralympic games medalist Adeline Dumapong;
professional advancement awardee and ABS-CBN Bayaning Pilipino awardee Rex Bernardo;
TESDA's PC Assembly gold medalist and TWH IT supervisor Domingo Literal;
PWD advocate Dr. Enrique Ampo; and,
entrepreneurship awardee Edward de los Santos.
TWH volunteer Engineer Felix Gonzales, Sr. was given a posthumous award.
Aquino lauded the awardees for setting an example and for maximizing their potentials despite their disabilities. He lauded Tahanang Walang Hagdanan and thanked its volunteers for helping empower PWDs.
Aquino also assured the PWD sector of the government's continued support.
He said that beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer program include 193,800 households that have PWD members.
"Sa mahigit 3.8 million household beneficiaries na saklaw na ng programa nitong Enero, nasa mahigit 193,800 po ang naitalang kabahayan na mayroong miyembro ng pamilyang bahagi ng sektor ng PWD. Ibig-sabihin, ganitong bilang din po ng mga pamilyang bahagi ng inyong sektor ang nasusuportahan na sa kanilang mga pangangailangan sa kalusugan at edukasyon," he said.
He also cited the Comelec's accreditation of a party-list group representing the PWD sector.
"Tagumpay din po nating maituturing ngayong mayroon nang isang party-list na accredited ng Comelec ang kayang isatinig ang karapatan at kapakanan ng PWD sector," he said.
