Zubiri denies abandoning UNA
MANILA – Former Senator Juan Miguel ‘Migz’ Zubiri denied on Friday reports that he is abandoning the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), calling the false information as “dirty tricks” to discredit the coalition.
Zubiri said he is not backing out from the coalition and will continue to support its platform.
“I will remain committed as a member of UNA, its ideals, advocacies and activities,” he said in a text message.
Zubiri was absent from the UNA sortie in Bataan on Friday, but explained that he had to attend a family event.
“It is unfortunate that I am not able to personally attend our Bataan rally because of a very important family event in Albay which is the wedding of my youngest sister Stephanie,” he said.
The former senator called for a stop to rumor-mongering, and urged his opponents to refrain from “mudslinging” tactics.
“Tigilan na sana ‘yan. Let us campaign not on mudslinging but through platforms and programs,” he said.
The alleged withdrawal of Zubiri from UNA was spread through mobile text messages, which say the senatorial candidate is now running as an independent.
“Zubiri, kakalas na sa UNA kaya di sumama sa sortie. Independent na raw siya,” the message reads.
