Watchdog asks poll execs to resign if automation fails
MANILA, Philippines - The poll watchdog that earlier requested the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to conduct another round of mock polls is now asking the election officials to agree to resign in the event that automation fails.
The group Kontra Daya, through Fr. Jose Dizon, told reporters on Tuesday that the Comelec commissioners should come up with a "covenant with the people" that they are willing to take full responsibility for the failure of the elections.
The group earlier expressed pessimism on the preparations undertaken by Comelec for the May presidential and local elections. It has criticized the glitches encountered in field tests, and the delay in the delivery of election paraphernalia.
"Whether it's their own making or not, they should take full responsibility," Dizon said.
Dizon said that the covenant will ensure that the commissioners will not get away with allowing the elections to fail.
"Taking responsibility is also taking the consequences for failure to do their job properly to give us a credible election," he said.
Dizon said that he was informed by Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal that the commissioners have already made an agreement among themselves that they will resign when the automated polls fail. Larrazal denied this.
"Dapat ihabol natin na hindi simpleng pa-re-resign lang. They should be made accountable for not doing their job," he added, saying that the commissioners should face appropriate punishment for the poll failure.
Larrazabal said the commissioners have "internal agreements" on what to do for the success of the elections, and these have nothing to do with resigning or escaping.
"As early as July, we already talked about this, because everybody wants successful elections. We have the intent to conduct a successful and credible elections," he said.
As for the concerns raised by the watchdog in its letter to Comelec on February 17, Larrazabal said that those will be discussed by the en banc in the coming days. (Newsbreak)

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money-power of the country will endeavor to prolong it's reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.”

THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL NOW IN THE PHILIPPINES IS CORRUPTION. TENS OF THOUSANDS ARE ALSO DYING BECAUSE OF CORRUPTION.
Please vote for a person with unquestionable integrity and without any involvement in any impropriety regardless of whether it is lawful or not. Vote for a person not compromised by questionable transactions and by questionable alliances past and present.
The highest criteria for choosing the president of the Philippines in 2010 must be INTEGRITY. Once an anti-corruption president is in place after 2010, an anti-corruption program can be institutionalized in the Philippines. Then in 2016, we can change the highest criteria for choosing a President to be CAPABILITY. I believe this is the ONLY path for our nation's growth in the next 12 years.

Hindi Lang Mag Resign
Sana mag sepuko lahat ng Comelec commissioners pag nagkaroon ng election failure. Kung ayaw nila, taong bayan ang gagawa nun para sa kanila.
