Senators and officials of the World Bank (WB) will go into an executive session Tuesday afternoon to discuss the WB report on the road projects controversy.

The WB had agreed to give the Senate an "informal technical briefing" on the process, role and nature of the investigations of the WB’s Department of Institutional Integrity or INT as well as the WB's sanctions process.

David Theis, senior communications officer of the WB, who worked in the INT for over three years will be the main spokesperson in the briefing.

The Senate's probe into the WB road projects controversy has uncovered the alleged links of First Gentleman Mike Arroyo to a barred contractor as well as the supposed inaction of government officials on the matter.

ABS-CBN News correspondent Lynda Jumilla told ANC’s Dateline Philippines the WB has informed the Senate that it will only discuss the INT’s processes, including the steps it had to take to reach its decision to debar seven firms for engaging in “collusive practices” for the WB-funded National Roads Improvement and Management Program or NRIMP-1.

Since the technical briefing will only focus on these, she said nothing “explosive” should be expected from the hearing since the alleged corrupt practices have already been extensively reported by media.

Senator Mar Roxas will preside over the briefing in place of Senate economic affairs committee chair Miriam Defensor Santiago who is on sick leave. -- report from ABS-CBN News Channel
