MANILA - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago filed an urgent resolution asking the Blue Ribbon Committee to immediately summon Technology Resource Center (TRC) chief Dennis Cunanan to the hearings and divulge what he knows in the pork barrel scam.

Under Senate Resolution 518, Santiago said it is in the public's strong interest for Cunanan to testify before the committee hearings.

Cunanan is on leave from TRC.

Santiago said Cunanan can divulge information on the criminal involvement of certain public officials and how the scam was perpetuated through the exploitation of loopholes in the disbursement of government funds.

She said this should be done soon in order to encourage eyewitnesses to testify before the committee.

Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Senator Teofisto “TG” Guingona III said he will make the announcement soon.

Meanwhile, Senator Jinggoy Estrada denied anew he personally talked to the new pork barrel scam witness.

Estrada said, "Ang sabi niya, he called me to confirm my signature. I think it is improper for a stranger to call a senator and ask a senator to confirm a document which he or she hasn't seen yet. Imposible naman yata iyon."

"Hindi ko siya nakakausap. I have never seen him. I only saw his face on TV. Medyo technical foul na iyon,” Estrada said.

Willing to testify

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) sees no problem with Cunanan appearing before the Senate hearings.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said this was part of the commitment he made for his provisional admission to the Witness Protection Program (WPP).

"We will allow him to appear before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, if subpoenaed. Like Ruby Tuason, he also expressed willingness to testify before the said body. Part of their undertaking as WPP-covered witnesses is to cooperate in any and all official proceedings relative to the subject matter of their testimony, here, the PDAF scam," de Lima said. – with a report from Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News
