MANILA – Alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles arrived at the Philippine National Police General Hospital in Camp Crame Wednesday morning to undergo medical check-up.

Chief Superintendent Alejandro Advincula, PNP Health Service director, said Napoles is set to undergo transvaginal ultrasound and Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT) blood test.

Advincula said Napoles' vital signs were normal but the businesswoman underwent electrocardiogram (ECG) because she was complaining of chest pains.

Advincula added the government will shoulder the P3,000 medical expenses of Napoles for today. This is on top of the P120,000 the government shelled out for the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind's transfer from her detention unit at Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna to the PNP Headquarters in Quezon City.

He said in case Napoles needs to be admitted to the hospital, the Makati Regional Trial Court handling the businesswoman's serious illegal detention case has to be informed first.

Napoles, accused of setting up fake non-government organizations where lawmakers allegedly funneled their pork barrel funds in order to get kickbacks, was earlier found to have an ovarian tumor.

Napoles had asked the court to allow her to undergo medical tests and check-up at St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City because these procedures cannot be done at Fort Sto. Domingo.

However, Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda, citing the testimony of Senior Inspector Michael Angelo Luna, said the hospital in Camp Crame has the facilities to perform the transvaginal ultrasound.

Luna is the attending physician assigned to the Special Action Force in Fort Sto. Domingo.

Napoles, a central figure in the P10 billion pork barrel scam, is facing plunder charges before the Office of the Ombudsman.

She was detained at the Special Action Forces (SAF) facility in Fort Sto. Domingo for a separate charge of serious illegal detention filed by her former aide, pork barrel scam whistle-blower Benhur Luy. – reports from Edwin Sevidal and Dennis Datu, dzMM
