3rd bishop to support Ang Kapatiran's 'JC'
MANILA, Philippines - Another bishop is supporting the presidential bid of John Carlos 'JC' de los Reyes, the Ang Kapatiran party's media team claimed Monday.
Rica Manalang of Ang Kapatiran's media affairs team told ABS-CBN News on Monday that Bishop Antonio Pepito Palang of San Jose, Mindoro has expressed his intention to support De los Reyes.
Manalang said the Mindoro bishop is joining Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles and Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra in openly campaigning for De los Reyes.
She said the information came from Arguelles through a text message.
Navarra and Arguelles have resigned from the poll watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) because of their overt support for the Ang Kapatiran party.
Navarra, who was the first to quit PPRCV as chair of its Negros Occidental and Oriental chapters, said his support for De los Reyes and Ang Kapatiran was his “personal position (and that) I just wanted to be consistent with my advocacies here in Bacolod for good governance, to eliminate graft and corruption.”
Bishops go against CBCP practice
Arguelles told abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak that he was following Navarra’s footsteps because he also supports Ang Kapatiran.
Arguelles was PPCRV provincial chair in Batangas.
Before leaving the PPCRV, Arguelles earlier said it wanted him to chair the entire Southern Tagalog chapter of the poll watchog.
He hoped that PPRCV chair Henrietta de Villa “would understand” his decision.
The two prelates broke an implied agreement among Catholic bishops not to openly endorse any particular candidate. The Catholic Bishops' Conferenece of the Philippines (CBCP) only goes to the extent of issuing pastoral guidelines to help voters discern the right candidates.
Canon law expert retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop and former CBCP President Oscar Cruz said “there is no canonical violation strictly, but it could be pastorally imprudent, as of the moment.”

Firm Stand on RH Bill
A firm and open support by a candidate on RH Bill will definitely change on how our electorates will view them in this coming election. This intrepid display of political stand shows determination to go against what has been regarded as traditional and non-committal, likewise unafraid to make a firm stand on an issue that will not only create unpopularity but will also allow us to freely choose on how to practice family planning without the disapproving ire of the church. Rather than condemn and ostracize those who would support RH Bill, Catholic church, or the CBCP in particular, should instead suggest some remedial measures on how to confront the family planning issue. We must recognize that the aim is to control or limit unplanned increase of the population, especially by those who lack sufficient financial resources to support a big family. The Church can do this in its homily on how to be a responsible and Christian parent.
JC is God's choice
We need prayer, humility and obedience to God.

Ang hangarin ANG KAPATIRAN partylist ay para ipaalam sa tao ang bulok na systema ng pulitika. Kung halimbawa naupo na si Noynoy bilang presidente kailangan magbayad ng utang na loob si Noynoy.
