Camille Villar denies dad committed vote buying
MANILA, Philippines - The daughter of Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manny Villar denied Monday allegations her father committed vote buying when he awarded scholarships to several children during a concert organized by the party last week.
Camille Villar told ANC's "The Rundown" that the scholarships had already been awarded on January 23 during the ABS-CBN noontime show "Wowowee."
Villar pointed out that the awarding was done before the start of the campaign period and that the presentation of the scholars during last week's Rockotropa Concert was just a formality.
"I was called on stage to say hi to the children. My dad was not on stage. He was there as a guest. We just wanted to call on the children up there. We don't believe we have violated any election laws," Villar said.
She added that her father "always encouraged us to help as many people as we can and I think in the end that is what we did."
The Commission on Elections earlier said Sen. Villar could be liable for vote-buying and disqualified from the presidential race for giving away scholarship grants during the Rockotropa concert.
Speaking to reporters, Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said the Omnibus Election Code bans candidates from handing out “money or anything of value.”
“The fact that there are tuition fees that would be paid for or books, clothes and even miscellaneous expenses that would be covered... that is ‘money or anything of value’,” he said.
The act of giving away scholarship grants is tantamount to vote-buying, Sarmiento said.
The Omnibus Election Code defines vote-buying as “giving, offering or promising money or anything of value” to induce anyone to vote for or against any candidate.
Senator Villar also found himself in hot water after giving away P20 dole outs to children during a campaign sortie. NP senatorial candidate Gilbert Remulla said the dole outs were simply an act of charity.
At least two presidential candidates, former defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro and former president Joseph Estrada, have defended Villar's giving of dole outs.
In an interview with reporters, Estrada said Villar's giving out P20 to children should not be considered a form of vote buying.
"Mga bata naman yung binibigyan nya. Hindi naman bumoboto yun, kaya hindi yun vote-buying," he said.
The former president admitted that as public servants, it is often difficult to avoid giving money to people. He said people look up to them and often come to them asking for help.
During his campaign rally in Silay City on Monday, Estrada also gave money, this time to an elderly woman who had attended the rally.
The octogenarian was squeezing through the crowd inside the Jose Locsin cultural hall when Estrada's campaign manager, Ernesto Maceda, caught sight of her and asked her to come closer.
Estrada shook the lady's hand and humbly accepted when the woman offered to buss him on the cheek. Afterwards, Maceda gave P1,000 to the woman.

We are at a crossroads of a new beginning. A dawning of a new era where only the brave once have survived – in a country long forgotten by the rest of Asia and perhaps, the world. My work brings me closer to how our Asian neighbors view the Philippines in the yesteryears, in our glorious days. Fast forward, things have changed. We are an “easy-to-manipulate, cheap, unpatriotic, corrupt and chaotic society.” Often our people don’t realize we live in confused society. We are a “rich nation pretending to be poor.”
But more than this, we are the only country I know of where people with university degrees, like our teachers, engineers, accountants, midwives, and nurses are cleaning other people’s toilets to make ends meet. Like our mangoes we are a sweet people. And way too similar we tend to rot. In fact some would say we are rotting. Luckily our mangoes are still the best in world but I can hardly speak for our people.
Sen. Mar Roxas is the most qualified and prepared Vice Presidential candidate this country ever had. He holds an economics degree from Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), arguably the most prestigious business school in the world, the sought after location for Wall Street bankers and financiers. His education and economic platform are beyond compare, which I am tempted to believe he would pursue. Along with Sen. Noynoy Aquino, they create a formidable team. They will sow the seeds of hope in this rotten government. They will heal this land. They will make this country great, as it was once before.
Both their track record in upper and lower Houses of Congress can speak for themselves. We can not entrust the future of this Country to people whose conviction and purpose we doubt. We can not allow the moneyed to direct our people’s future, lest to plunder their soul.
Somewhere in 1998, Congressman Joker Arroyo (unrelated to the rotten mango species that occupies Malacanang) said of Sen. Villar, “So in the case of Speaker Villar, it is simple. If he wants to continue in business and deal with government financial institutions, he can do so but he cannot also be a congressman. If he wants to be a congressman, then he must not be in business which deals with the government. We have to pay a price.”
Now, he is gunning the Presidency, not of any random company, but the Philippines. Forbes.com estimates his wealth at close to a billion US dollars in 2009. Like Joker Arroyo, I surely would say, the people might pay the price.
And like my personal hero former Senate President Jovy Salonga, I surely would say this country shall be great once again if it is ruled by the concerted effort conscienced mortals. This nation, I fully believe will be in good hands of Senators Mar Roxas and Noynoy Aquino more than any other in this critical moment of our history.
Insist on the best fruit on the table. Not the rotten ones.

Las Pinas vs Tarlac
Dun po sa nagaaway kung sino ang mas ok maging Presidente. Pumunta po kayo sa Las Pinas (Villar) at Tarlac (Aquino) at dun nyo makikita ang leadership at accomplishments ng 2 ito.
Pumnta po kayo sa Senate website at tingnan nyo ang mga nagawang batas ng 2 ito at dun nyo makikita kung sino ang nagtatrabaho at sino ang may abilidad para mamuno.
Sa mga eskandalo na kinsangkutan ng 2 ito, ikumpara nyo din kung ano ang naging epekto sa mamamayang Pilipino sa kabuuan.
Ang kelangan ng tao eh yung taong may malinis na hangarin at may abilidad at subok na may leadership skills. Di pwedeng malinis ang hangarin lang at walang alam gawin kundi mom at dad ang bukang bibig. Di din naman pwedeng may abilidad at subok na leader pero in question ang hangarin.

Para sa akin, lahat ng mga kumakandidato PURO NAGVOVOTE BUYING DIN! Gumagastos sila sa TV commercials, print ads, radio flyers at kung ano pa para maiboto rin naman sila!

Si Villarroyo narin mismo nagsabi na sa media sya mag explain at ano pa gawin ngayon kundi sa media narin ilabas ang mga ebidensya laban sa kanya.
Yung nagsasabi na walang ebidensya, ano paba yung tax return sa lupain sa Ilo-ilo, yun land grabbing ni Villarroyo sa Bulacan at nasa korte na ito dati pero walang nangyari at sigurado meron silang ebidensya, yung sa C-5 at halos puro abogado na yan sa Senado at yon ba hindi ebidensya?.
tapos sabihin na naman ng mga defenders ni Villarroyo na sa korte nalang, meron ba nagyayari sa mga malalaking kaso kagaya ng mga Marcoses na hanggang ngayon ay napabaliktad pa ang ibang may desisyon na. Isa pa wala ng oras para sa korte kasi kailangan na malaman ng taongbayan kasi malapit na ang eleksyon at ang taongbayan na ang humusga
