1-hour blackouts hit parts of Luzon
MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) on Thursday said rotating 1-hour blackouts will affect parts of Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon due to an expected shortfall in energy supply.
Joe Zaldarriaga, external affairs manager of Meralco, said the rotating blackouts will start at 10 a.m. and last until 5 p.m.
"According to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, the shortfall is only 245MW by 11 a.m. and 280MW by 2pm," he told radio dzMM.
Among the affected areas are parts of Imus, Dasmariñas, Bacoor and General Trias in Cavite; Bagong Barrio, Dagat-dagatan and Maypajo in Caloocan; Malabon; Bagong Bantay, Kaunlaran, Batasan, Barangay Holy Spirit, Pugadlawin, San Francisco del Monte and Tandang Sora in Quezon City.
Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes earler said power supply from the Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan (CBK) hydroelectric power plants fell to only 210 megawatts out of its total capacity of 700 MW due to low water elevation.
National Power Corporation spokesman Dennis Gana, meanwhile, urged privately-owned power plants to delay scheduled maintenance operations to ensure continues power supply this week.
He added, however, that Napocor has no control over independent power producers or private operators.

FYI
Our peak load at 1PM is 6,084 Megawatts, it is expected to rise with additional 200 MW up to 7PM.

Let there be Light (wisdom)
I can't remember na sinisi ni Reyes ang Diyos, sa pag kakaalala ko e sabi nya " The brown out was force majure. That is an act of God. If you wish to blame the brown out to somebody, blame it to God." And FYI, we have yet to experience a black out since nung time ng milenyo. Brownout pa lang to.
He is being accused of something and yung statement nya e parang hugas kamay. Nothing more, nothing less.
Pero in terms of capacity he could have done better than request congress for additional power to GMA. Giving precised data to the concerned groups will enable a transparency.
I would consider calling vince perez again or tet garcia for oil related matters kaya lang he is opting for political position.
"Nationalism is not how harsh or violent your comment, its how productive and useful it's cause."
isip pagong
kapag sinabi ni reyes na walang brownouts, tiyak na meron; at kapag nagwarning siya ng power failure-everything will be normal...
Blame God?
I'm sure, Angelo Reyes will blame God once more for the blackout. Ampu!
