Hontiveros, admin bets are top poster violators
Escudero taxis also in trouble – Brillantes
MANILA - Team PNoy senatorial candidate Risa Hontiveros emerged as the valedictorian in the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) list of candidates with poster violations. Other administration candidates also joined Hontiveros on the list.
In successive posts on his official Twitter account, Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes unveiled the list of candidates whose posters have been found in prohibited areas as well as the number of notices each candidate has received.
"Risa Hontiveros was served another notice for her illegal posters in Cainta. Her 4th notice already; received most number of notices so far,” he said.
Runner-up to Hontiveros is Senator Antonio Trillanes, another administration bet. "Sen. Trillanes was sent 2 more notices to remove his illegal posters (West Service Rd & Tondo). Total: 3 notices."
Next on Brillantes' list is Bam Aquino. "Two (2) separate notices were sent to Bam Aquino for his illegal posters in West Service Rd/Kamuning & E. Rod in QC. Total: 3 notices."
Senator Francis Escudero, who was adopted by Team PNoy, is also in trouble for a product endorsement found on some taxis. The taxi operators are also in danger of losing their franchises.
Brillantes tweeted: "Taxi operators carrying Sen. Escudero's illegal ads will also be summoned; cancellation of franchise on the way. Sen. Escudero was served his 2nd notice, this time for his 'A-Plus Paint' ads illegally placed on Taxis/PUV."
President Benigno Aquino III's aunt also figured on Brillantes' list. Cojuangco is a candidate for the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
"Ting-Ting Cojuangco was also sent notices for her posters hazardously nailed on elec posts in Mabalacat, Pampanga," Brillantes tweeted.
"Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Gringo Honasan, Bro. Eddie Villanueva & Cong. Jack Enrile were each sent notices to remove their illegal posters," he added.
Legarda is with Team PNoy, Honasan and Enrile are with UNA, while Villanueva is with Bangon Pilipinas Party.
Admin party-list groups too
The poll chief also promised to reveal repeat violators of rules on campaign posters. "Mamayang gabi ilalabas ko uli bagong listahan ng mga pasaway na senatoriable at party-list na hindi pa rin sumusunod sa campaign rules!"
He said candidates and their parties must disclose who are behind their ads.
"All campaign posters MUST indicate for whom the ads are & who paid for it. Without such statement, the propaganda is prohibited. To the public, pls report to @COMELEC-apart from those misplaced & oversized-campaign materials not bearing the required statement,” he said.
Meanwhile, incumbent party-list groups topped Comelec's list of poster violators.
"Our topnotchers: LPGMA and Kabataan Party-List, each with four (4) notices; most number of notices sent to a party-list group."
Brillantes named several other incumbent party list groups, three of which are affiliated with the Aquino administration.
"Notices to remove illegal posters were sent/will be sent to: Akbayan, Bagong Henerasyon (BH), A-Teacher, An-Waray & ACT-CIS. Notices to remove illegal posters were sent/will be sent to: Binhi, 1 BRO-PGBI, UMALAB-KA, KALINGA, 1-SAGIP, KATRIBU & ABROAD."
Akbayan, BH and An Waray are allies of the administration.
Brillantes also said, “Additional notices to remove illegal posters were sent to the ff partylist groups with 2 notices each: Sanlakas, Anak Mindanao & Gabriela."
Meanwhile, the poll body is proceeding with the prosecution of Kabataan and Piston for election offenses as well as petitions for the cancellation of their accreditations.
"Prelim investigation of Kabataan PL & Piston for election offense of failing to remove illegal posters despite notice will begin this week. Kabataan PL & Piston will also face motu proprio cancellation proceedings of their party-list registration shortly after."
"More notices are coming, more will be summoned in the coming days--party-list and senatorial candidates. We are very serious on this. I am not joking when I said candidates/party-list groups will be disqualified/cancelled if campaign rules will be disregarded.”
