Women activists present condoms to Philippine bishops
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Catholic bishops, already waging a bitter battle with the government over birth control, received an unwelcome gift Monday when female activists delivered them two baskets of condoms.
Members of the leftist Party of the Workers presented the condoms to mark International Women's Day as they picketed the headquarters of the influential Catholic Bishops Conference.
They also asked the bishops to bless the two baskets but no bishop was present at the time to respond.
"We humbly ask the bishops to bless the condoms as a conciliatory gesture to unite for reproductive health and women’s rights," said Judy Ann Miranda, the party's secretary-general.
The picket came after the bishops angrily demanded the resignation of Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral for handing out condoms on February 13 as part of an information campaign on HIV-AIDS.
The bishops have since also called for a ban on condom advertising but the government has shrugged off their demands.
In reaction to the protest by the Party of the Workers, the bishops' spokesman Monsignor Pedro Quitorio said they could not compromise on the church's opposition to birth control devices.
"If contraceptives are immoral, nothing can change that... not even the vote of the whole country can change that," he said.
About 75 million Filipinos, out of a national population of 93 million, are Catholics, a legacy of the country's Spanish colonial past.
The Roman Catholic Church disallows the use of artificial contraceptives like condoms, even for preventing the spread of disease.
Health Department records say there are 629 confirmed cases of HIV-AIDS in the country but experts say many cases go unreported.

Ang mga pari, bishops, at pope ay mga instrument lamang ni God. Ang mga doktrina or teachings ay galing kay JESUS CHRIST at hindi sa mga pari o obispo. Ang sabi ni Jesus Christ “ang simbahan ay haligi at pondasyon ng katotohanan – 1Timothy3:15”. Promise po ni JESUS CHRIST “the gates of hell will not prevail against His church”. At utos ni JESUS Christ sa Matthew na “go and teach them to obey ‘ALL ‘ that i have commanded you – I am with you always. Hindi po niya sinabi na ituro yung mga gustong pakinggan ng mga tao. At hindi rin po multiple choice ang turo ni JESUS CHRIST na pipiliin mo lang yung ayon sa iyong opinion ay mabuti sa iyo. Wala pong authority ang mga pari, bishops, at pope na palitan ang turo ni Jesus Christ. Hindi na po yan mababago, yung mabuting turo ni JESUS CHRIST ay mananatiling mabuti noon, mabuti ngayon at mabuti hanggang sa wakas ng panahon. Totoo at sumasangayon ako sa inyo na nagkakasala din ang mga pari pero marami po dyan ay talagang malakas ang faith at matuwid o sabihin na nating banal at isa pa po hindi po yan ang basehan para hindi natin sundin ang utos ni JESUS CHRIST. Sabi nga ni JESUS sa Matthew – sundin ang mga sinasabi ng mga pariseo pero hwag gagawin ang kanilang maling gawain kasi mali na nga gagawa ka pa ng mali, diba?
Ang utos po o katuruan ni JESUS CHRIST ay hindi parang prutas sa palengke na kung konti ang bumibili ay babaan mo yung presyo para mabenta. Hindi po ganun si LORD at lalong hindi magagawa ng mga pari o obispo na baguhin ang turo ni LORD kasi wala nga silang authority at hindi sila ang diyos. Hindi rin po yan dinadaan sa survey na kung marami ang hindi sangayon sa simbahan ay dapat palitan ang doktrina kasi marami ang salungat. Nangyari na po yan sa gospel of John 6 na marami sa mga sumusunod kay JESUS CHRIST ang nag-alisan nung sinabi po niya na totoong pagkain at inumin ang kanyang laman at dugo. At tinanong ni JESUS CHRIST ang kanyang mga apostles kung aalis din ba sila, sagot ni Peter kanino po kami pupunta nasa iyo (JESUS CHRIST) ang buhay.

To prevent having AIDS follow RULE NO 1. -Malinaw ba mga Women activists? condom should not campaign to prevent having AIDS. Dapat ang campaign nyo mga activists at pari ay RULE NO 1 and RULE NO 2.

Negative Growth Rate

Christ has never spoken against the Bible, but he was often outspoken against religions. The Catholic church needs to reevaluate their position in regards to the acceptance that sexual behavior, either morally or not, are going to happen. It's part of the intelligent design, which is why they should be more supportive in these. It's being proactive towards the prevention or spreading disease rather than promoting sexuality since it's what we do as human being. I don't understand their logic at all, with all respect.
Irrelevant Bishops
The more the bishops speak out against condoms, the more ridiculous-sounding they become. Their pronouncements no longer carry much weight and are largely ignored by the very flock whose free will they direly wish to suppress. They are given far too much importance by media which is way out of proportion to their purported influence on Catholics here. Here we are in the 21st century and we still have to contend with a tiny minority whose archaic mindsets and doctrines are hopelessly stuck in an earlier unenlightened century. If these are the leaders of a nominally majority church then it is no wonder that many followers are leaving or staying away. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Separation of State and Religion
What happen to free will according to God?
To the Bishop, be careful distinguishing Religion and the Bible in your teaching. The Bible is the only truth and religion is just religion. Therefore there is a distinguished difference in God words and your teaching. Do you know how many spouses had suffer in the lack of divorce in Pinas? Do you realize how empowering it is for an abusive spouse to continue to behave in malice since the law forbid it?

ako po ay isang sagrado romano katoliko. naniniwala sa Diyos at sa simbahan. ngunit sa isyu ng contraceptives, sang ayon naman po ako na dapat protektahan ng isang indibidwal ang kanyang sarili sa paraang alam nyang tama, na wala syang matatapakang tao. sa realidad lang sana tayo at wag ng magmatigas. malilibog ang pinoy at madaming sira ulong pinoy na nangangaliwa, cguro sa paraan ng pagsusuot ng condom, mapoprotektahan na nila sa kanilang kalokohan ang kanilang pamilya. para hindi na madamay ang mga walang muwang sa mundo.
