VP Binay: Transfer Delfin Lee to a regular jail
MANILA -- Vice President Jejomar Binay wants Globe Asiatique founder Delfin Lee transferred to a provincial jail instead of getting special privileges by staying at the regional office of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pampanga.
Lee, one of the top five fugitives in the country with a P2-million bounty to his head, was arrested on Thursday night.
He was subsequently taken to the San Fernando Regional Trial Court in Pampanga, which earlier ordered his arrest for his alleged role in defrauding the Pag-ibig Fund of almost P6.6 billion by using fake borrowers and documents.
Binay, who is the government’s housing czar, will also hold a dialogue with the members of the Xevera Homeowners Association in Mabalacat on Monday at 10 a.m.
The cases involving Lee supposedly covered around 10,000 housing loans. Unit owners in Xevera Homes had paid millions before learning that the units were not registered in their names.
Binay earlier claimed “influential people” went to Camp Crame on Thursday night to persuade the PNP to release Lee.
