MANILA -- The House of Representatives is set to go on summer break at the end of this week, and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte hopes representatives will take advantage of this time to see how their constituents feel about charter change (Cha-cha).

Belmonte said many Cha-cha critics fear the insertion of political amendments that will extend the term of public officials.

Buhay Representative Lito Atienza earlier said he will collate a document that will ensure such amendments will not be sneaked in.

Now, Belmonte is saying he is ready to sign the document.

But House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales II said there is no need for such a document since they have been saying since the beginning that they have no intention of revising the political provisions of the Constitution.

Gonzales said talk of charter change has been around for the longest time, but this is the first time that only the economic provisions are being amended.

Last week, the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments approved the resolution seeking to amend economic provisions of the Constitution. This includes provisions on foreign ownership.
